I played for this coach in high school...he would never do anything to intentionally hurt a player...coaches do shite like this all the time, this time the ball happened to hit the kid.

Kids now are fricking pussies. End of story.

this whole story is why i hate american kids these days. they are all such pussies and would rather play video games with their thumbs up their arse then get outside and play ball. i also hope there is more to this story than a coach hitting some grounders at baseball players.

Who hasn't had a ball hit at them for not paying attention while on the field @ practice? It's pretty common practice and a way to teach the kid a lesson. I know I had mine hit at me...you get pissed but later laugh at the enxt person it happens 2. In basketball you get a ball chest passed to you if you're not paying attention...the kid is obviously fine. what a pussy.

Parents now think their kids are perfect though..little johnny is never wrong...use to if the coach ever told my dad that I was fricking around in practice and not working I was in for an arse chewing...but now the parents take the kids side no atter the story. Which is why you see more out of control kids on field/court these days

It's definitely more American parents than American kids. If the kids know that their parents won't back them up and act as a crutch for them, they won't act like such bitches. When kids get yelled at or punished at school, today's parent's first reaction will be "my child is being mistreated, I'm gonna complain to the school." Parents' first reaction used to be "what did my kid do to provoke this punishment and how can I further discipline my kid so they don't frick up/embarrass me again?"

If I got cursed/yelled at by a coach in practice, had my facemask grabbed by a coach, had a ball hit my way for not paying attention or fricking up in practice, I knew my dad would side w/ the coach so, as is the case w/ life as an adult, I had to man up and take measures to make sure that shite didn't happen again if I didn't want it to--work harder, pay attention, don't frick up.

my parents are still like this to a certain degree. I think it definitely has more to do with the parents than the kids themselves.

Yes because they're supposed to be paying attention.

And let's say the coach smacks one in just the right spot and causes brain damage. Should've been paying attention, right?

ETA: It would be nice to have more details on this, though. Somehow I doubt the above situation could have happened, but he got fired over it...

99% of the time it's a groundball..if he's in the outfield its a line drive that ends of rolling fast past them...I've never known anyone to drill a kid in the ribs...just hard grounders..so get the sand out of your vagina

My thinking is that if it were a routine grounder for an idiot not paying attention, then the coach doesn't get fired.

Is that so hard to follow?

1) I said hard grounder...but sitll no reason to get fired
2) All the kid has to say is coach hit me with the ball....the parents won't care how it was once Johnny starts crying.
3) If more comes out he did more than that...then I was wrong..but i'm guessing he did what every coach i ever had did.

Let's say you have the kid run bleachers as punishment. He gets overly exhausted, slips, and face-plants, sustaining brain damage as a result. Do we ban bleacher-running as a punishment?

There's always some risk involved when playing sports. If parents don't find this acceptable, they can have their children fitted for those nifty hamster bubbles.

That's not the point of my example. I don't know what happened. All I'm saying is that there's no way anyone knows that the kid was a little pussy bitch about a grounder, and the talk here like he was is ridiculous. So I threw some other ridiculous scenario out there.

Point of what I'm saying: We don't know, so calling out high schoolers for being little bitches during baseball practice when we know nothing is stupid.

I coached high school baseball for the past few years...the majority of them are pretty much little bitches.

Not these kids, but i've coached during the regular high school season and then also several other high school players during the summer...ive also coached at the junior college level and there were a few that were little bitches too.

you can say what u want but kids now aren't like we were...we were taught to be accountable for our actions and we owned up to what we did...kids now are pussies.

i strongly strongly disagree, yes the majority are. However, some are no different than past generations.

My dad used to do this to me when I slacked off. I imagine if I would have told him about my coach doing this to me, he would have laughed.

Mine was an old school Marine. I couldn't imagine having told him I got a ball hit at me cuz I was fricking off.

I respect what you're saying about withholding judgment regarding these specific kids until we know more details about this specific situation.

My comments were directed at today's kids in general.
