BM had a passing game. Rummel game was weird cause Bruce was hurt, he wouldn't have made a huge difference but he could have kept Rum more honest.

Yep. I have a cousin who coaches at a public school who always pulls the "well it's not fair that private schools can grab kids out of my district and I can't pull kids from anywhere but here" card when I talk about how stupid the split is. They love it.

How bad do you have to be that people are willing to spend thousands of dollars for something you provide for free?

Are we really going to act like lots of private schools don't offer some of their best players free or reduced tuition?

Does it matter when all public schools offer all of their players free tuition?

Yes. Generally, and there exceptions, but private schools tend to offer better educations and "safer" or "more controlled" environments.

Here's a hypothetical situation. Let's say your stud 15 year old lives on 46th street and is going to Capitol middle or high school.

Capitol is free, what a great situation, right?

What parent in that situation wouldn't want their kid going instead to park view, Catholic, southern lab, u high, etc?

Now you're starting to get to the heart of the matter. Proposal 18 has a lot to do with football but it has even more to do with an incompetent public school system.

great thing about this country is you have the right to choose...

there are probably parents out there who see a public school and think "my kid can start there" when their nonathletic children go to private

Yeah I guess. I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of kids who are good enough to earn any level of scholarship in football from this state don't come from affluent backgrounds.

That's fine BigEd you got that point made. But explain to me why West Monroe and Acadiana voted FOR the split?

Totally understandable why 3A and lower publics voted for it. But 4A hadn't had a private win it in Idk how long. And it was about a decade gap between Rummels championship and the last private champion.

Each class had a vote for whether they wanted the split. So, there's only one excuse... A lot of public schools coaches and administrators are scared. Scared to death of better competition. Gimme the easiest route to the dome and whine about how the privates recruit all of our kids...

Kudos to Zachary and the few other public schools for voting down the split. Too bad the rest of this state has a gaping vagina between their legs.

I have no clue. As it personally effects my son, I'm for the split. Hes in elementary school but the HS varsity is forced to play in a district where they get demolished.

Some publics can compete with privates.

I'd be in favor of creating some type of ranking schematic where powerhouse programs, public and private, are playing each other. But if you dominate at a lower level for a few years you are forced up. On the flip side, if you get destroyed annually you should be moved down.

I haven't really thought this out a lot, I'm sure that has drawbacks I'm not seeing.

i'm gonna take a wild guess and say that the split isn't making your program any better

sure you might get in the playoffs now if you weren't before, or you might be 5 spots better than without the split, but it's only making your team SEEM better, like a mirage. the split isn't throwing the ball or tackling for yall.

For now at least I think I can look at this an stay unbiased. The competitive difference between teams was astronomical. The high school decided to drop lhsaa for their district schedule and just schedule the entire year non-district.

We aren't even eligible for the playoffs. But not long ago, this was a program that could barely fill the roster being forced to compete against true power programs.

That's how you get people hurt.

there aren't too many teams you could be referring to so i'll guess Ascension Christian.

there's a dude representing that program on sportsline that is so "woe is us" it's ridiculous. yes they might not be the most established program, but he acts like every kid they have is 5'1" 100 lbs or something and that West St. John and Kentwood might as well be the NFL.

the funny thing is, some of the most notoriously talented small school programs voted for the split, like what does OCS have athletically that West St. John should be scared of?

This, plus Catholic got by Evangel to play in Championship. Rummel beat Curtis. The top 2 teams are in.

Definitely have to give Catholic props for beating Evangel at their place.
