Ronny, I love ville basketball...I hope they do get to a 1 seed, because I just don't love how Pitt and UConn find a way to lose at the right time so they don't get dropped. I think the Big East tourney is your more likely way in than the regular season's final week.

yeah, just have to hope they show up and dont get bounced by pitt again this year
last year made me sick, pitt sucked

unc, the ville, kansas, uconn/pitt

I have the Ville getting that one seed, due to the Pitt/U Conn macthup, which I now think Pitt wins. U Conn cannot possibly get a 1 seed with 0-2 vs. Pitt (maybe even 0-3???)
My one seeds, based on projected strength are:
1. Pitt (Will finish Big East Tourney Runner-up)
2. UNC (will win ACC Tourney)
3. Louisville (will win Big East Tourney)
4. Oklahoma (will finish Big 12 tourney runner-up)
Two seeds:
5. Kansas (Late surge and Big XII Tourney just not quite enough for a team that was unranked a little over a month ago)
6. U Conn (2 seed by virtue that the committee won't allow three #1's from the same conference)
7. Memphis (Cakewalk into Selection Sunday...bubble teams better hope so anyway)
8. Michigan State (Big Ten Champs; Big Ten Tourney Runner up)

I wanna put KS there...seee my post above. I think for them to get the 1, they need OU to get knocked out of the Big XII Tourney early and they need to win it. I think it's possible.
The committee is FULLY aware that OU was without their best player in the Kansas game. They will look at OU's body of work with him, rather than without.

I don't disagree in the slightest with you, Pisces, but I want to see the Pitt/UConn game first. Maybe I'm a gigantic vag, but I can't call the game yet. If UConn wins, then my board stays the same, if not, and Louisville doesn't royally screw up between now and MSG, then I bump them.

That was my plan, but I guess I felt a lil dicey. Louisville is just looking more and more like a 1. If U Conn beats Pitt and Ville has a Big East tourney collapse and loses to a team like Syracuse...
In other words, the Big East tourney has more play on the overall selected field than anything.

MSG is going to play an unbelievably huge role this year. So many teams can play their way in or out, and top seeds will be on the line, perhaps in direct competition.
ETA: I'd give a good bit to be at MSG for that one.

Notre Dame, IMO needs to get to the finals to get a bid.
Providence, WVU, and Syracuse need to win their first round games, to be safe.
Georgetown needs a miracle

Don't forget the new format! All 16 teams. Marquette will most likely be the 5 and Nova the 4. G'Town will be 11/12. The Hoyas will have to play a Seton Hall/St. John's type team, then maybe Marquette or Providence/WVU in the next round.

yeah, that's why I edited. I keep forgetting.
Why don't they play that entire tourney out like an NCAA regional, since they have 16 teams?

It's to reward the top teams with byes, and rightfully so. The 1 seed shouldn't have to win 5 straight. You don't want to tire your best teams out before the NCAA tournament.

If I'm anyone else from the NCAA field, I do!
I see your point, though. What reward would it be for Louiville to open up with USF and then have to play the winner of a Syracuse/WVU game? Speaking of, the loser of that game is going to get bit hard and likely ends up in double-digit territory...I say Syracuse wins it in the Garden over the 'neers.

Everyone except 225:
Sometimes you might look and not see your team in there and then you may see them 30 minutes later. This process sort of requires me to do that. It's a total craps shoot mixed in with some logic. I had the Buckeyes out yesterday for about an hour and then I compared their body of work with 4 other similar teams in the Big Ten. I figured the 2nd best rpi conference would get 8 in, so instead of putting an extra team from the SEC in, I put the Buckeyes back in at a 12. Lots of factors to weigh in and that is why I am constantly updating.

There's supposed to be logic involved with this?
Posted on 3/1/09 at 7:29 pm to BraveTiger225
The only logic, seriously, is dividing the 13-16's properly. All else, at this point is total guessing and playing off of history.

And I would love a rematch with Xavier, FWIW.
