. Although UT and OU would still play, it wouldn't have near the impact if in difference conferences (see UM vs OSU).

The Big 12 formed in 1996, before that Texas and OU were in different conferences. That means like 70 of the years they played it was an OOC game.

what makes you think it would be soo much more than traveling to Nebraska/Kansas/Colorado? If the extra costs outweight the extra revenue they wouldn't do it. That they are talking about should indicate that is not, at first glance at least a big issue.

Money talks. And both schools would make more money in the SEC

Texas would not join the SEC for academic reasons. The Big 10/Pac 10 fit in with their academics better.

Academics at Texas aren't hurting right now, and any academic improvement they'd get by joining those two conferences is offset by the bigger improvement they'd get athletically in the SEC.

They could take all that extra money being in the SEC would give them and give it to the academic side for the same effect, if not more so.

Its not a matter of improving their academics, its a matter of joing a conference with similar academics. Personally I think its BS, but that's beena issue in the past, its why they did not consider joing the SEC back in the early 90's.

It comes down to who makes the decision, and for what reason. If it's for academics, then it's probably the Big Ten.

Athletically, no question, the SEC is a better choice.

the big 12 needs Texas much more then Texas needs the big 12.

I would argue that Texas needs OU and A&M more than it needs the Big-10 or the PAC-10

Me. too. Does Texas just like limiting itself to opponents it will always have an advantage over?

Texas also could keep OU on the schedule every year for an ooc game. They did that when they were in the SWC

Athletically if Texas is getting the voters in the polls from the Southwest and the Big 10's voters, then they would have more of an advantage in the polls.

Had Texas been in the Big 10 you may have seen Colt McCoy win the Heisman.

Different areas of the country vote different ways in the polls and Heisman voting.

The winner of the SEC championship has been a virtual lock for the National Championship game. Texas has been on the outside looking in. A move to the Big 10 could help to change the perception.

I think you mean "polls" as opposed to "poles" but I get what you mean.

I wouldn't say that Texas has any long-term advantage over either OU or A&M, or vise-versa.

But jumping ship just because right here, right now, UT is in it's prime in a conference where 85% of it's competition is crap doesnt justify a long term commitment to a new conference. Severing ties with nearly 100 years of rivalry will do more harm than good in the long run.

Texas has a huge advantage over both in terms of athletic budget and academics, moreso over OU in the latter.

Not to mention, there's a lot more to do in Austin as opposed to College Station or Norman.

Hardly. Texas has the #1 athletic program already. Big is #1 in revenue

I think that's highly likely, as well as Mizzou going to the Big10

The BigX11 just needs to revamp it's lineup to be significant again. They have an uphill battle for sure
