Was supposed to be the #16 class. That would have been the best ever for Baylor. Most of the highest rated recruits transferred immediately or never came to campus (Baylor let them out of their letters). Ended up being #40, but then more players got dismissed from the team.

Interesting that only 1 player who left has been particularly successful (Devin Duvernay at Texas).

It's spelled "rappers". And it's pretty racist to assume all black people are in to rap.

Is this a “look at how we’ve overachieved” thread?

More of an interesting fact than anything. I am also surprised to see that some of the other highly rated recruits didn't end up doing that well elsewhere. Some of those guys had very impressive high school records.

I think he was making a not funny joke about rape.

To be fair to Baylor’s players and coaches...after all this bad press, after the administration throwing the football program under the bus, after everything...

Only one Baylor football player was ever brought to trial, convicted, and imprisoned for rape. One more had his conviction overturned on appeal.

That’s what this whole “scandal” boiled down to. One guy.

There’s an interesting book by Lane Alpert titled “The Scapegoat”...though it is written as a work of fiction intentionally for legal reasons, it’s a better summary of what went on in Waco than you ever saw on ESPN.

It’s wild to me that Tren’Davian Dickson ended up at Texas Southern.

Duvernay, him and Stidham would have been so good.

It’s pretty obvious that UT and ESPN targeted the program and brought them down with the entire saga.
ESPN had to try and salvage their Longhorn Network and Texas couldn’t stand to be passed up by a little private school in freaking Waco.
Notice that after the entire thing cooled off and the dust settled ESPN has completely dropped the subject.

I dont think most people understand how centrally located Baylor is to talent and how quickly someone could have success there.

I thought Kam Martin would light it up at Auburn.

It’s all about having the ‘in’ with high schools for jobs in Texas. Briles was a legendary HS coach here and so it was natural for him. The best thing Rhule did was hire several ex Baylor players that were in the high school ranks when he took the job.

That's every school. Not unique to TX. Coaching is simply a business. You need someone with a plan and can work it.

They’ve been centrally located since they were founded. Grant Teaff and Art Briles were the only two coaches to have sustained success there.

As bad as the coaches were at Baylor from 96-2007, they didn't have the benefit of nice on campus football offices, practice fields, weight rooms, and an on campus stadium.

All the football facilities were previously housed in Floyd Casey, which was a few miles of campus in an old neighborhood.

Now that doesn't excuse just how bad they were.

I went to Baylor from 93-95. Walked on and the facilities were actually better than LSU.
