Rumor has it next year could be the last for Cypress Mounds.

I know one of the owners and this is far from the truth

That would be great if Cypress Mounds didn't shut down, but everyone knows it's in trouble. Fewer and fewer parents are willing to pay what they're asking.

What did Cypress Charge this season per team and how many games does that include? Are the gate fees still $2 per person which includes a drink?

Baton Rouge Youth Baseball in Trouble?

Gearing up for another season, and from all indications, there are fewer BR youth baseball teams registering for USSSA than in the past.

The evolution from league-oriented youth ball to travel-oriented has noticeably reduced the number of boys who want to play baseball.

It's a sad situation, and I see no solution on the horizon.

Cypress Mounds is very, very impressive. An incredible facility in such a shitty part of town.

Entry fees?

when I was in NOLA a bit and played ball for NORD teams (equivalent of BREC teams), we never paid a dime, except for uniforms. Same with babe Ruth

Going after kids that play other sports is an interesting angle and hope it works out for you. My oldest one plays travel ball and youngest plays league ball. By 11 years old it definitely gets harder and harder to play both competitive basketball and baseball with the overlapping schedules. You might be able to get some good athletes that still want to play basketball (or soccer) yet are being "encouraged" not to play both for "travel" teams.

Not for years I think. I coached Babe Ruth baseball when it started in BR way back when, and I don't think it lasted all that long.

My son has moved on to HS ball, but it is obvious that the outlying areas with fields and leagues of their own are moving out in front of BR, and I suspect it will continue to manifest itself at the HS level, with the BR area schools falling further and further behind.

Playing true travel baseball is a tremendous commitment, and we only did a couple of years of it with my son, even though the talent was there. It damn near precludes playing any other sport, and he didn't want to limit himself to baseball only.

Cypress Mounds is one of the best facilities money can buy. I would be surprised if it wasn't successful in the future.
