Cardinals TV ratings rank No. 1 in MLB for second straight season

quote:

The Cardinals’ local television ratings on Bally Sports Midwest ranked No. 1 among Major League Baseball teams for the second straight year and fourth time in five seasons. It’s the 23rd consecutive year the team placed in the top four in MLB (2000-2022).

May have been shite but they provided $80 million (give or take) in revenue to the Cardinals.

Another media company will obviously replace em but not a good revenue situation at the present for teams they owe the money to.

As posted above, when you're the most watched team in the sport, it's pretty irrelevant.

Hopefully they get rid of the stupid blackout rules in regards to MLB.

They have to dump this eventually.

It's as stubbornly stupid as Old Man Wirtz refusing to allow Blackhawks home games on local TV for decades because he still believed it ate into ticket sales.

LMFAO!

Do you not understand the difference between local market ratings and eyeballs watching? Do you REALLY think the Cardinals have more viewers than the Yankees or Dodgers?

God almighty, you sound like a Bama fan trying to tell me Birmingham has more CFB viewers than any other city in the country.

Of course it's relevant to piece together a huge media deal 3 months before the season starts.

I have followed this very closely and Bally Sports not just going under, but folding entirely, is a foregone conclusion. And MLB and the Cardinals have prepared very carefully for this and have basically 2 options going forward that we can watch games with minimal disruption:.

The Cardinals massive contract is converted into equity in BSM and they run the station as a majority owner (they currently own around 30%), and rebrand, negotiate new contracts with Dish, YouTubeTV, Hulu, Sling and count their money. In this scenario they take the Blues with them.

The Cardinals tell Bally to frick off and bring the broadcast in-house on the MLB app and can completely start fresh. Possibly included in MLB.tv but more likely a little extra for the in-market privilege. In this case the Blues are fricked.

In my opinion we will likely see the first option this year, and depending on the success, option 2 in the following years. The Cardinals have set themselves up incredibly well for this and have already hired a director for local TV. Any resolution of this scenario will be better than the current Bally situation
