Just curious as an outsider who doesn't follow the Braves. Is AA living off the 2021 trade deadline? How was his performance before 2021?

He made a splash with Toronto but his Braves post 2021 reputation will always be tied to letting Freddie walk in favor of depleting the farm for Matt Olson.

He had this warp sense of reality that younger always equals better. He was so obsessed with keeping the window open for 10 years instead of selling out for the present and immediate future. Ironically that mindset shite the window way quicker than anyone possibly could’ve thought.

2021 was very lucky and I would say the 2nd/3rd worst team (excluding this year) of the 7 AA playoff teams. I think the 2022 and 2023 teams were the best constructed Braves teams of the last 25 years without a doubt. Once the WS hangover wore off they played at a 118 win pace over a 275 game stretch from mid 2022-end of 2023. He gets credit for that.

He was also very patient when he arrived and I thought did a good job of supplementing the minor league core he inherited with smart trades and signings. It was a very natural build up from 2018 to 2023.

Things have really gone off the rails since the end of the 2023 season though starting with the Kelenic trade. Injuries/payroll declining etc. can be blamed but a few of the extensions were ill advised and it seems they’re not wiling to admit mistakes on evals and they’re just willing to go down with the ship.

I’m not a huge fan of their draft strategy but they’ve done a pretty good job of finding some very productive big leaguers quickly with guys they’ve picked (Schwellenbach, Baldwin, Harris, Strider). But their drafts have produced zero organizational depth and the early returns in the IFA market has not been good since the ban ended.

Nothing they’ve done organizationally since the Sale deal has made much sense to me. Today was really dumbfounding.

Seriously. And now we get to watch Snit pencil in Ozuna at DH every day, causing Baldwin to lose ABs, which could prevent him from winning ROY and costing us a nice pick. AA is an idiot.

While certainly true, even with Brown our first round picks have been almost entirely terrible for the entire AA regime.

I know firsthand that Brown fought AA on drafting Schwelly and Langeliers. AA wasn’t that high on either of them.

Not trading Iglesias or even presenting Ozuna with a trade is one of the most negligent things I’ve ever seen.

All of the relievers should have been dealt in my opinion as has been said in this thread.

Toscano’s belief that ownership didn’t give the green light to take on $$ in order to dump Ozuna and Iglesias is the only feasible explanation.

No matter what the reasoning is though the way the organization has been run for the last 12-18 months is beyond embarrassing from ownership to AA to Snit.

It’s not feasible considering the reasoning was for “fear of fans quitting on the team”

You’re behind the Miami fricking Marlins and under .500, trading Ozuna and Iglesias for anything wasn’t going to be the reason fans bailed

I actually really disliked the Langeliers pick, I wanted Corbin Carroll to be drafted by us really badly that year, and when he dropped I really hoped we'd grab him.

And of course we followed Langeliers up with our second first round pick which was one of the stupidest first round picks I've seen in
Shewmake, and an even dumber pick in the second with Beau Philip.

Langeliers wound up being a solid/decent pick obviously, but I don't ever see him being consistent with that terrible hit tool.
