Must be nice to pay Ohtani like 1 or 2 million a year
But in all seriousness my understanding of the deferrals is that they still count against the teams payrolls that year as if they were paying out the contract, I could be totally wrong on that

A 6 year 130 million deal is nothing now like it was then. What about Austin Riley which is the richest contract in the clubs history, or does that not count somehow because he wasnt a free agent?
Go be a doomer elsewhere.
And when I said I expect them to make a splash for a SP, that can mean a lot of things. The braves dont typically hand out very long contracts to people they arent extending, but the Chris Sale deal worked out pretty well. Id expect it to be a shorter contract with a higher AAV

Being Ted’s number two for decades continues to pay off for McGuirk.

Maybe we can spend some of that money on a SS and some pitching
They had 1 reliable starter throughout the entire rebuild and resurgence and let him go in free agency
It's been 3 seasons with a black hole at shortstop
They signed multiple guys to team friendly deals
A lot of money getting blown on no results

"Team friendly" is about the last way I'd describe those deals except for perhaps, Acuna...when he manages to stay healthy.

The battery just prints money

The Braves made $59 million in mixed-use revenue in 2023, mostly from The Battery. In 2024, that number increased to $67 million. By the end of this year, it's projected to be close to or about $80 million.
This is all considered non-baseball revenue, so it's not subject to revenue sharing. The Braves keep all of that and can plow it back into baseball ops. Other MLB teams are understandably envious of this and are studying how to try to duplicate the Braves-Battety model, at least to some extent.

Except we're spending it on more real estate in the Cumberland-Vinings area.

Yeah like I said in the OP I think the battery is the envy of most professional sports teams in America and will be the model for at least NFL and MLB teams moving forward.
Again though, I think they could spare some of that cash on improving the SS and the BP at least. SP next year assuming no injuries with Sale, Swchelly, Strider, Holmes, Waldrep, AJ, and possibly Lopez if he can come back should be very solid but as this year has shown us with literally every single opening day SP in the rotation currently on the IR, you cant have enough SP

They will spare the bare minimum to keep people interested in coming to the Battery.

I can dream
What SS are even going to be available this offseason? I’ve seen some braves fans make the argument Riley could be moved to SS which is just absurd
Bo Bichette maybe? He doesn’t strike me as the type of player the braves would be interested in though. His defense isn’t very good and I’ve seen speculation whomever signs him will want him to move to 3B
In terms of starters I’d like to maybe see them go after Gallen or Cease who are having somewhat down years and maybe drive their value down slightly
Bullpen id want to target a closer like maybe Suarez who might cost the most even though he is 34, Kyle Finnegan might be able to gotten for a good AAV. Edwin Diaz is probably going to opt out of his deal with the Mets but the braves aren’t going to pay him above his current AAV of 18.5 million
