At what point do players become too big and athletic for basketball?

The new generation of pro player like Ben Simmons, Porzingis, Greek Freak would’ve been centers based on size 15-20 years ago. And pretty soon all these guys are going to come into the league being able to shoot too.
These guys are huge, and fast, and can do it all. KG was supposed to be some unguardable freak because he was 6’10 and had ball moves and a jump shot, tons of these new guys dwarf him ball skill wise.
In 10 years when 70% of the league is made up of 7 footers who can drill it from 30, see the floor from the point, and run the floor as well as anyone, will the NBA just be boring?
I’m a high school basketball coach and I almost can’t fathom how easy the game would be for someone that big and that atheltic

The court is being widened, this is a non-issue.

When you become like Kenny George from UNC Asheville

I remember that guy, looked like an actual giant lumbering down the court

Magic was 6’9 and obviously incredible, but a 6’9 guy running the show and handling the ball isn’t even uncommon anymore, hell its typical

It's already happened in football.

So it'll be a league with unstoppable offense and guys playing very little defense?
Man. That'll be so different.

I get your point but what I’m saying is it’ll make the game boring because you can play all the defense you want but when guys are that big and that fast and can rise up and drill it, what’s the point of playing defense?
They need to bring back the hand check and let defenses get physical again, that’s the only way I can see any chance to stop some of these guys

Agreed. Flow of the game will be better too when there aren't fouls called every possession.

This is one of the main reasons why I can't watch pro basketball anymore.
The play is so start-stop now that I just can't enjoy it.

It won’t stop them but it will make defenses more tough. A lot of the “soft” defense people complain about is due to hand checking

Do you bring back the illegal defense rules? The reason you could hand check before is because the NBA used to be a 1 on 1 league. You had to guard your guy 1 on 1.
When they changed the rules, they eliminated hand checking because the defense would have too big of an advantage if they are allowed to play physical and hand check while also playing a man/zone hybrid.
The game is in a sweet spot right now. You don’t have the ridiculous up and down really high scoring games of the 80’s and you don’t have the half court iso low scoring games of the 90’s.
It’s at a happy medium right now.

I'm all for getting rid of zone defenses and bringing back hand checking. I want the game to flow, even if it's ugly at times. Guys will still get theirs, they are the best in the world they don't need any help from the refs.

They got rid of the old rules because the game got so iso-heavy, slow, and boring.
They don’t call fouls any more than they used to. It’s a myth.

Here’s a chart for you. Foul calls have actually decreased over time:
So the idea that there is no flow to the game now because the refs are calling fouls constantly where they didn’t in the past is 100% false. It’s revisionist history.

This myth will never die. Defenses today are light years ahead of what you saw 20-30 years ago. Fouls are also way down.
Just because a team doesn't force it inside as much anymore doesn't mean defense is gone. The game is played on the perimeter now.

You're right.
I guess what I should say is I'd prefer the game to be officiated in a manner which allowed for more contact. Obviously the foul #'s stay similar over eras because players adjust to the way the game is called.

Take away the zone, add hand checks, and you'll go back to the most boring stretch of basketball in NBA history.
