Same thing happened to East Ascension's coach last year. What's wrong with kids being these days? I don't understand how you can't take a good arse chewing and just swallow it and move on.
I couldn't agree more...come on now whatever happen to good old days like when Larry Dautrieve coached me at EA. Oh wait, he was fired too!

Comments from that article are pretty much to the point. Lots of comments from players and parents
from what I've been told at work is that the Bowen lady is some sort of psychiatric doctor. Also that she may not have obtained the parent's permission to talk to the kids on matters of psychological abuse.
quote:
First let me commend Mr Zane Jacob for having the courage to stand up for his coach and his beliefs and not succumb to peer pressure and bullying tactics. I would like to have a young man like him next to me in a foxhole or dating my daughter. I had the good fortune to see Zane's orginal letter in which it named names. I am sure the Citizen had him redo it without actual names for legal reasons, I am actually suprised they had courage to print even this version. Since Coach Lemons name is out there however, it only seems fair that we should identify some of those involved in Zane's letter. The mother/'counselor' is Suzette Bowen and her husband that argued with Zane was Todd Bowen. The other mother who called on the phone and was instructed to get quotes from the ones at her house was Charmaine Elisar. Of course the principle was Mia Edwards. I won't list the other players there by name at this time but I am sure Zane would be happy to let you know. The inmates are officially running the asylum.

Bowen would do something like this what else do you expect from a guy who had his son quit his tournament ball team half way through the season due to, yes playing time again. I guess since you can not quit your high school team he goes ahead and the next thing cries to his wife a counselor pulls the mental anguish line and gets a coach fired. Baseballs a mental game bud, its not uncommon for good coaches to drag a kid through the coals like steel and then have him come through in big time situations when its needed. 'Sports dont build character, They reveal it'- even a funny movie like Dodgeball knows that

@ big hitter,,,I can tell you why he resisgned, not becasue he is guilty but because he is a MAN. I don't want to put words in his mouth but what I can see is that he did not want to drag the program thru a legal battle. He did not want to drag his family thru a legal battle. He did not want all this press. You can rest asurd that all of this brue-hah is killing him becasue he cares for the program. Period. @ stullier, good to hear from you. well said. I enjoyed watchin your son play years ago. To All: I respect everyones opinion and keeping it clean on this board. Do what's best for the kids and our program.

My son plays ball at St. Amant and the claims of abuse are BS. The only abuse done was by the parents trying to convice these kids they were abused and that mother who is a counselor should have her license revoked. She and her husband did more harm to Zane Jacob than Coach Lemons ever did. He even stated so in his letter. That is one courageous young man and it's too bad that the rest of these players and parents don't have half the integrity and class that young man does. If anyone wants to think what Coach Lemons said in his speeches was abusive I suggest they take a trip over to the girls softball field once in while or perhaps the St. Amant football locker room. Of course, the previous comment is correct. His winning streak was not going as well as the softball team or the football team. A coach can only do so much to get a win, it's up to the players as well. if all you can think about is yourself and your own selfish interests you will never win as a team. I noticed Mia Edwards and Coach Oliver was there yesterday supporting the team or perhaps to turn away the media and protect Mr. Bowen. There were plenty of rumors flying around that someone was going to do harm to him after the game. It's a shame that I never saw them once this year give Coach Lemons that same support or to show any support for the team. I wonder what would have happened if Coach Lemons would have been given the chance Mr. Bowen was to be told of what was going on and to get some back up in his corner before he was ambushed by this administration after the game. I guess we'll never know. As far as the previous comment about him resigning because he was guilty, You have really got to be kidding. The man was left with no choice. Resign or be fired. When you threaten a man's career and his lively hood what kind of a choice is that. Had Mia Edwards and Coach Oliver had his back like they did Mr. Bowen's yesterday it would have been a whole different outcome.

so the coach was forced to resign or he was going to be fired? or he didn't want to fight the fight because it would drag his family into court? or he loved the program so much he thought the best thing was to walk away and just remain a teacher at the school?
all i know is if he didn't do anything wrong and he loved to coach i would have fought the situation. and my guess is administration could not support him with the evidence presented to them.
no matter what there is a fine line within the school system and children. does anyone even know this coach that's making these comments? has anyone spoken to him personally?
hopefully the program is successful and parents, students, and the community can support the kids not so much coaches. because at the end of the day isn't it about the kids didn't the coaches have there shining moment as a player when they were in high school or college.
