Are coaches having their players false start on purpose on 4th and medium?

They know you cant punt from the 39 on 4th and 6, but if you get a false start and its 4th and 11 the fans cant criticize them for punting and it create some more room.

You see it around midfield so often, especially out of a timeout.

The only way I can explain it happening so often is because the coaches dont wanna be criticized for going against the analytics. Im fine with the decision to punt there by A&M, but if you pay attention you see it all the time (and im not counting when they try to draw the other team offsides and take a delay of game).

In some cases yes, and not because of analytics- more so to get more room for the punt. Plenty of teams take intentional penalties in that situation to allow for a better space to pin the other team back. Often they’ll use the offense to try to get them to jump, and then tell them to jump otherwise to get the penalty

Now doing it after a timeout as A&M did is just dumb

Probably.

I would always tell my OL to flinch and move if we were inside our own 2. Why not? Sometimes a penalty works for you.

Really? I feel like the first time they decide to flinch at the 3 yard line and the next play results in a safety, your HC is firing your arse
