Your avatar makes a couple nice points.

Mma is not as tiring as wrestling because wrestling has a scoring system, IMO. Mma you can stall in the clinch and get a breather while standing and throwing some half arse kicks and punches. But I was never a pro or a high level in either so take that fwiw.

Good points, and I agree to an extent. If we are talking the same amount of time (3 min vs. 3 min) then wrestling in general can be more taxing. But wrestlers don't go for 5, 5 minute rounds.
Also, you can be the most insanely in shape person on this planet (iron man, elite wrestler, etc), but let's see how well that cardio holds up after getting kneed in the liver or a broken nose 30 seconds in. Wrestlers stall as well, and there are often short breaks in action to reposition, challenge a call, etc

Me and my brother used to fight mma style, we were both literally soaked in sweat after about 10 minutes

For being so similar and connected, it's kinda hard to compare wrestling and MMA in this sense. MMA takes a different kind of endurance due to taking hits and what not.

Yeah I agree. Wrestling's shorter rds keep it less taxing.

I wrestled in the intramurals for my frat, despite having never done it before. I held my own somewhat against guys who had wrestled in HS. One of my big regrets is that my school didn't offer wrestling. I think I would have been pretty good with some formal training.

Yeah I suppose. Especially the title fights. However, I was referring to more of a sport that is readily available for kids, HS, etc to participate in. MMA for all its popularity is still a niche sport. Not like your average HS athlete can just go find a place to go 5x5.
If you went minute for minute, I'd say wrestling is more strenuous though.

The shorter rounds also make it more taxing, as every second is crucial (which you alluded to in your previous post). And I didn't mean to knock wrestling in my first post as that was not my intent whatsoever. Wrestling (any style at any level) is about as demanding on ones body as it gets.

I've never wrestled competitively, but after many mood altering beverages, a buddy talked me into having a go at it. He was quite a bit younger than me, but we moved the couches and went to town.
I have now gained a new appreciation for wrestlers. I am out of shape, but after two minutes of wrestling, I thought my heart was going to explode. Has anyone else been dumb enough to do this as an out of shape adult?

I wrestled in college for one year then back to LSU. I coach as a volunteer at a 5A school and its a bitch.

This kind of just starts off like the old joke "Two firemen were butt-fricking in a smoke filled room, etc.......Why didn't you just give him mouth to mouth resuscitation? I did, how do you think this shite got started?"
