You play 162 games to have your season comes down to 9 innings? Why not have a 3-game set with the #1 WC being the home team?

This way increases the chances of the #1 team advancing to the World Series. Therefore, I say that it is good.

Old rules were perfectly fine, and that would have Anaheim and Los Angeles in the WS starting tomorrow night. The fact that the other eight playoff clubs have even a chance at this point is just gravy for them.

Why say you that these also-rans deserve more gravy?

I'm cool with it. There is a way to avoid it by winning your division.

Stupid. Any team can win 1 game. Not nearly the same as football or even basketball. Talent wins a series.

I agree. A one game sudden death is pitiful. Move the season up a week. Best if three for wildcard play.

And teams who don't win their division are treated appropriately as just any team.

The teams who are the least deserving get the least chances. What's the problem? Why white knight for the fifth best team in the league?

I think eventually (15+ years from now) each league will have 8 teams reach the playoffs like the NBA and NHL playoffs.

The NFL is trying to push for a 7th team in each conference then will be pushing for an 8th team after that.

Three games would be almost just as random.

I like it much better than the old wild card format.

Until 1969 the best team from each league played the World Series. That was the only playoff. This is why guys like Albert Belle have more postseason experience than Babe Ruth.

I understand that. But that isn't what you said.

While this is very true there is a scenario where WC1 could be at a disadvantage to WC2. Let's say WC1 is in the hunt for a division title and its neck and neck down the wire, while WC2 is multiple games behind in the division but 5 or 6 games up on the next closest contender. In this scenario WC2 could set up its rotation while WC1 could not. Thus, despite being multiple games ahead in the Wild Card race, WC1 would be disadvantaged going into a 1 game playoff. (I'm aware WC1 would have home field advantage).

That will probably happen once in 10 years. Not saying the point isn't valid, but it's not reason enough to change it.

Plus at the end of the day wc1 still didn't win their division so hard to feel bad for them.

Agreed just throwing out scenarios. At one point this season I thought that was going to be the case in the AL with the Angels and A's fighting for the division while the Mariners could lay back and rest the King for the 1 game playoff. Nobody wants to face the King in that scenario.

I like it when my team isn't one of the two teams
