Another basketball rules question

I know that you have 10 seconds to get the ball past mid court. (8 in NBA).
Question is if the ball is knocked out of bounds by the defense, does the 10 second count start over or does it pick up where it was when the ball went out? What about if a time out was called before the ball passes mid court?
I'm thinking that it starts over at all levels except the NBA.
Any referee's that can rule on this?

Correct. I believe there are different rules in the last two minutes in the NBA but couldn't tell you what changes (really helpful, I know).

NCAA resets the 10 second count for everything...
FIBA and the NBA only reset for kicked balls and foul calls. The different rules in the last two minutes has to do with timeouts. If a team uses 6 seconds to get the ball across and then calls timeout. If on the ensuing inbounds they throw the ball in the backcourt(not a violation in the last 2 minutes), they get a fresh 8 seconds even though they should only have 2.
