Head Coaches hire these guys as assistants because of their AAU connections. The AAU racket is just that, a racket of self-dealing. The HC's may try to stay away from the in's and out's of recruiting the mega-star recruit, but they aren't stupid. They know it's dirty. They just want to be able to claim "plausible deniability" when something like this happens with the assistants.

The HC's charge to their top recruiters is "just get me the player, but don't tell me how you did it." Are the HC's expressly telling the assistants to go out and cheat to get players? Probably not. But they certainly know what it takes to sign big time players and don't ask questions when they do sign.

Again I point out, this logic doesn't hold up in a court of law. If Pitino goes after Louisville if they fire him, the "prior bad acts" don't matter. (I learned that term from Law & Order).

There are reports that Pitino is Coach 2. Which would make these quotes about him:

quote:

Augustine told the group that he expected Adidas to cover the payments because "no one swings a bigger dick than [an unidentified Louisville coach]" at Adidas, and all the coach had to do "is pick up the phone and call somebody [and say], 'These are my guys, they're taking care of us.'"

And that is where I think it could get interesting in court if they do fire Pitino and if he does sue for his buyout.

If you seriously think this is gonna escalate to a full-scale lawsuit with discovery and all that, you have lost your mind. It's very plausible both parties will reach a severance settlement bc neither want more information revealed and published in public record than what has already been revealed and both sides are presenting grounds for their actions. It's a reasonable inference.

I agree with all that you are saying....I just "wish" such a thing would happen. It would be quite the pissing match with dirty laundry on both sides scattered all over the place.

And if Pitino is "coach 2", then I will ask the jury to disregard this thread......

just maybe, Pitino is telling the truth and he had no knowledge of what his assistant coach was doing?
If that is the case he is not worthy of being a head basketball coach. He is basically the CEO of the basketball program and if he is telling the truth then he is totally incompetent when it comes to running a program. Either way he deserves to be fired.

Plausible deniability is no longer an excuse for those in positions of power when it comes to their subordinates breaking rules or laws.
