I have said for months (of course, it doesn't make me an expert because its not going out on a limb) that Clowney is absolutely the best fit for the Texans. He willl elevate that pass rush and defense for years to come, and more so than what any available quarterback could do.

Watt and Clowney equals a shitty day for other quarterbacks.

There's so many smoke screens before the NFL Draft. I wouldn't believe any rumors that come out now until the day before the draft.

Just like the Browns being the only team that wasn't at Manziel's Pro Day. Obviously, they want him but putting up a smoke screen to others is what teams do these days.

Smartest move for Houston. Take Clowney and a QB in the 2nd round.

this is dumb. they won what, 2 games with a top 10 defense already? take the best QB available.

Common misconception. They are technically top 10 in yards per game on defense but only because the opposing teams had so many short fields throughout the season. They actually ranked 14 in yards/play and 24th in points per game(which granted can somewhat be accounted to the short fields, but it's still bad). They were also bottom 10 in rushing yards allowed and third to last in sacks last season. Not to mention their D only got worse/depleted in the off-season. Now I know Cushing is coming back, but how many games is he going to play this year. How effective will he be in those games?

Point is, Clowney makes the Texans better than any 'first round QB' does.

You don't just blow the first pick on a QB because it's your biggest need. You draft based on needs and value. Most people feel there is plenty of value in waiting on a QB this year since there are no Andrew Lucks this year. The best available QB really isn't head and shoulders above the 4th or 5th best available. But Clowney is clearly head and shoulders above other pass rushers in the draft.

As a non-Texans fan, I think it'd be a pretty solid move.

This is the route I've been wanting them to take since day 1. Actually, I would really like to see them swap picks with Cleveland, taking Cleveland's 4th and 26th(?).

The one argument that I have heard regarding drafting Clowney that I kind of interesting is that you're about to give JJ $100M+, what happens after Clowney's rookie deals runs out? It is likely that he could command similar money. Making it nearly impossible to keep both, only having Clowney for 4 years.

Any QB the Texans were to take in this draft and Clowney would demand about the same amount of money after their rookie contract if they each played to Watt's level.

That's a terrible reason not to draft Clowney.

Clowney destroyed Lewan in that Bowl game. If you watch the tape its crazy.

Houston needs to draft Clowney then Mettburger then a Donte Moncrief or Jordan Matthews if they last till the 3rd

What character issues? Motivation issues are apparent.

Seems like character issues would imply trouble with following rules or the law. He's been an Eagle scout as far as that goes.

Well maybe not Eagle scout but speeding tickets? Everyone gets those.
