Draft Joekel, resign Bowe... that's not a bad way to start. With the new draft compensation, Getting Joekel with the No. 1 overall will be a steal in 3 years price wise.

Rumor I read was for a second rounder in 2013 and a significant 2014 pick.

If that's true, 49ers must've been wearing a ski mask during the transaction.

Who will be be the better QB over the next 5 to 8 years..

Alex Smith....or Geno Smith?

You can't ask that question like that

It's Alex Smith and an elite tackle or Geno Smith and some scrub you get late in the draft.

Smith will be better with the upgraded line

Can't be serious. If so, what in the frick....elite receivers and RBs rarely even warrant that, let alone a mid-to-low tier QB

I highly doubt that. Most players that are dealt in drafts would never get close to that compensation, especially one that got benched after his backup showed up to play

Top 2nd round and mid pick next year. 49ers just got that much better.

Adam Schefter ?@AdamSchefter
Chiefs will trade second-round pick this year - the top pick in second round - as well as another conditional mid-round pick in 2014.

So they basically traded whichever QB they were going to take in the 2nd and some mid-round pick, likely 4th if they make the playoffs, 5th if he starts so many games and so forth. Still worth it

They could have waited to 4th round to draft a qb this year.

That 2nd rounder is essentially a 1st round pick

Wow so the 49ers essentially just got a first rounder.

The Chiefs must be really high on Alex Smith. They could have got a qb with that pick.

Or even later.

I really don't get giving up that much for a QB who had one good year, was nothing before Jim Harbaugh, & couldn't even keep his job away from a second year player.

Per ESPN:

quote:

Kansas City will trade its second-round pick in the 2013 draft -- the second selection (No. 34 overall) in the round -- as well as another conditional mid-round pick in 2014 to acquire Smith from San Francisco, a league source told ESPN.

That's what I'm saying. They would have gone with someone in that first batch of Geno, Barkley, Glennon, etc. with that pick. So you take a reasonably young game manager and if it doesn't work, you can take someone next year and now have two great tackles in Joeckel and Albert to product your new toy

Or even later.

They needed someone who could come in and start right away, not someone who would be at the same level as Cassel and Quinn
