#1 Cal State Fullerton lost one to Wazzu
#2 Virginia lost one to Kentucky
#4 Mississippi St lost one to Western Carolina
#7 Indiana lost 3/4 to Texas Tech
#8 NC State lost to Canisius
#9 UCLA lost to Portland
#13 UNC lost to College of Charleston
#14 Louisville lost to The Citadel
#15 Rice lost to Stanford
#16 Clemson lost to Eastern Michigan
#17 Miami lost to Maine
#18 K State swept in 3 by Cal Poly
#20 Arizona State lost to Baylor
#21 Florida lost to Maryland
#22 TCU lost to Jacksonville
#24 ULL lost to Eastern Illinois
#25 Texas split a 4 game series with Cal

I know baseball's a strange game but that's a lot of top teams not sweeping inferior opponents on opening weekend. Only 8 ranked teams didn't lose.

Like Lasorda said, everyone will lose 1/3 and win 1/3, it's what you do with that other 1/3. As long as they won their series it's no big deal. Indiana...they're just the overrated North team.

These are solid programs. Maybe inferior teams this year but no shame in taking two of three if you're ASU or Rice

When State goes to the college world series, it is always after we lose our season opener with Rodon pitching. The prophecy has been fulfilled again.

yep. as long as you don't drop the series or make it a habit this is pretty irrelevant/meaningless.

college baseball is a little different than MLB. Teams like State, NCSU, UCLA, UNC, Clemson, and Miami should sweep those teams... Granted, it was NCSU's only game on the weekend. Its not like those teams are in trouble but to see so many good programs lose even one to such shite mediocre to bad teams is kind of a strange occurrence.

I'd say it's even easier to drop a game to a nobody in college. All it takes is one hot pitcher and anyone can win in a baseball game.

shite happens in baseball. Indiana was the most surprising, though.

Cajuns still went 3-1 so it's not a big deal.

Not too worried. The kids will bounce back. It's our last year at Packard Stadium too before everything gets torn down for a gigantic sports complex so this season has plenty of motivation to get to the big one.

It's been a crazy week/weekend in Raleigh. I'm not too worried about it.

Cancel a series with UCSB, then schedule Canisius last minute. Then cancel the first game of that series. shite, at least they played a game this weekend.

This. We won't really be able to tell how good any of these teams are for a few weeks.

He's gaining all of the weight he's been trying to make Austin gain.

By the way, we had a true freshman hit 100 mph on the gun this weekend. I have no idea how he ended up in college.

2013 Opening Weekend

Arkansas lost 1 to Western Illinois
Vandy lost 1 to LBSU
UCLA lost 1 to Minnesota
S Carolina lost 1 to Liberty
Stanford lost 2/3 to Rice
NC State lost 1 of 1 to App. St.
TCU swept by Ole Miss
Florida lost 1 to Duke
Louisville loses 1 to Indiana
San Diego swept by SDSU
Ariz St. loses 1 to Bethune Cookman
Tex A&M loses 1 to UIC
Baylor swept by Irvine
Texas loses 1 to Sacramento St.
Clemson loses 1 to William & Mary
Virginia loses 1 to ECU

Pretty similar to last year really. LSU, Florida State, Oregon St and Oregon swept this year and last yr. The number 1 team took 2 of 3 and alot of ranked teams lost 1 and won an extra inning game or a couple close games.
