I believe that Higgins will blow out Westgate. They just seem to have that explosive offense on a roll right now.

Great running game
Avg passing game

Decent pass defense
Suspect run defense

So Westgate has got a puncher's chance to win the game

I doubt they have seen much Wing T so i like your chances

our run defense is pretty nasty.

Even though it got us this for in the playoffs, i still hate the WingT. Not what Westgate is about.

But I guess this is what High School football is going to now

(24)Westgate @ (1)Dutchtown

I get burned picking against Westgate but I can't seem to stop. I know they are 8-0 all time on the road in the playoffs. I know that every year they make an incredible run in the playoffs, yet this is the week the run comes to an end. I think Dutchtown is suspect on defense, productive on offense. I know that Westgate plays tremendous defense and has a suspect offense. I think this matchup hinges on Dutchtown being more effective against the Westgate defense than Westgate will be against the Ducthtown defense. So my heart says pick the Tigers, but my head (being up my arse as always) says the Griffins win this week.

(5)Jesuit @ (4)West Monroe

Jesuit has a lot to be proud of getting to the Quarterfinals. Their reward is a long trip to West Monroe. West Monroe had a terrible week with the officiating last week but they still won fairly comfortably. I come back to three TDs being negated by officials last week and I don't think that happens again. The LHSAA won't send a crew to Monroe that even remotely resembles the debacle we saw last Friday. Wess Funrowe Webels in a romp.

(3)St. Paul's @ (27)Acadiana

Another head versus heart game. My head says St Paul's is the kind of disciplined and physical team that can beat Acadiana. My heart says Acadiana is too good at home for St Paul's to go to Lafayette and beat them. I think Acadiana's big play potential is going to be too much for St Paul's to stop for four quarters and St Paul's does not have enough offense to match Acadiana. This time I go with my heart and pick the Rams

(2)St. Thomas More @ (10)St. Aug

The weather friday night will be COLD which favors the relentless running game and tough defense of STM. The "home field" advantage is non-existent in cavernous Tad Gormley Stadium. The coaching match up is way in STM's favor. Fate wants to see the STM vs Acadiana for a trip to the Dome in the Semi-Finals. I say STM wins.

there might be no better home field advantage than St. Aug in Tad Gormley on Bayou Classic weekend... who stops Leonard Fournette?

I thought St. Aug was the one with a relentless running game in this matchup? Thought STM was all about the pass?

how can you say there is a home field advantage at Tad Gormley when the stands are so far away from the field? Plus do you really believe people coming in to NOLA Friday to party for Bayou Classic weekend are planning to sit in the freezing cold to watch a HS football game? Even if they do go, it won't matter because it seats 26,000 people. Get a great crowd in there of 8000 and the place is only 1/3 full.

I am not really worried about Leonard Fournette. Like Acadiana's Micah Eugene did against STM (225 yds and 2 TDs), he will get his yardage. However St Aug's defense will struggle stopping STM's versatile offense. What worries me is Aug's ability to throw the ball in addition to their RB productivity. I dont think it will be enough.

STM's high for the year was 19 passing attempts for 215 yds. Don't know where you got your info.

STM can throw it very well when they do decide to throw it. They would much rather run zone read stuff and grind on your defense.

I would think St. Aug. would just try to play keep away from STM with their huge OLine. 3-4 yards and a cloud of dust you to death.

many have tried grinding it out against STM (sulphur, acadiana, westgate, carencro, comeaux, hahnville) and all have failed. STM is too good at taking away what you want to do with their defense as well as their offense scoring points. Tough to continue grinding when you are down 3 TDs in the second half

STM's defense is very good against the run and outstanding against the pass. This is truly a special STM team.

ETA:
also St Aug gave up 59, 30, 35, 43 points this season. That is not a defense that is conducive to holding the STM offense in check so Aug can grind it out.

a lot of bayou classic out of towners are st. aug alumni who have heard about leonard fournette. they'd like to see him in person i'd think and this might be their first chance. also other school's fans might want to see such a great matchup and root for the NOLA school.

also no offense to jesuit, but the Catholic League hasn't won a state championship since 1987. St. Aug is the last and the best hope in a while, as the district is dissolving next year

also stm fans from lafayette might decide not to go

ok so give them 4000 more people and get the crowd up to 12000 (which I predict is not even close to what is going to be the actual attendance) and the place is less than half full

and the stands are 40 feet away from the field on the other side of the track

St.Aug coach likes to throw the ball alot. He has changed his philosophy with the addition of Fournette and his top receivers missing the majority of the season. Since the receivers have come back they have become much more balanced. I didn't know STM more was a running team, Ouachita did a good job controlling the clock last week which led to the low scoring output for St. Aug. I'm assuming STM is going to try a similar strategy.

STM has a good sized Oline with depth

They prefer to run the ball but they have an effective passing game

STM likes long drives but this year they have exhibited big play potential they have not had before

STM is primarily a shotgun zone read offense. Last week they struggled a little running on hahnville until they went into an empty set. Flores at QB in the gun with four WRs and a TE. Hahnville had no answer for that and STM broke two long runs out of empty to break the game open

STM is as well coached and efficient a team as you will find anywhere in the state
