Doesn't matter in that situation(giving up points on D doesn't matter) the chance at the ball is worth giving up some field position.

The onside kick makes no sense if you get the FG. That 35 yards of field position is huge when you only need a FG.
The chances of stopping the Saints are far, far greater than recovering the onside kick. If/when you stop them, having them punt from their 25-35 is much better than your own 40-35. Hell, you could have stopped them on 3 and out and they still could have kicked a FG from your 35-40. The onside kick makes no sense no matter how much you tout it.
