If Manning could've won the big game or ever beaten Florida, sure then...he was snubbed. But he didn't...

Woodson had a fantastic year, he won the Natty and was dynamic on both sides of the ball. Its actually shocking people cry about this as some injustice. Manning wasn't all that in College. Teams wanted to take Ryan Leaf for godssakes.

The 1996 Memphis game broke the Manning era at Tennessee.

quote:

Manning’s stats for the final four games of the year: 82-140 1,319 yards 13 touchdowns 4 interceptions The Vandy game was a o little rough, but I don’t think faded is a good way to describe how he finished the year.

He had 5 passing TDs and 3 INTs in the last two games. 532 yards passing on 37/69 attempts. All that after Woodson set up the only Michigan offensive TD vs OSU, returned the punt, and finally intercepted OSU in the end zone.

Basically Manning couldn’t afford that 12/26 for 159 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT game on the heels of what Woodson had done. He lost it against Vanderbilt.

A few observations:
- didn’t realize Herbie has been with ESPN quite that long
- The Sports Reporters were a bunch of arrogant elitist. I didn’t like Mike Lupica and the documentary confirmed that my view of him remains unchanged.
- No doubt Manning felt a lot of pressure and didn’t finish strong.
- Woodson finished strong and his single came performance against Ohio State sealed it for him.

I was glad Woodson won it. Manning was not the most outstanding player, he was just the superstar who turned down the NFL for one more year in college.
