Curious to know if there's any software to plug in to Photoshop to make these images. Anybody? They have you believe in the video that it can't be duplicated by digital methods.

Since I posted, I spoke with Noli Novak who is 1 of 4 staff illustrators for the WSJ. Her drawings appear daily in the WSJ. She commissions these on the side. For a signed 3x5 she charges $600 a pop and takes 1 week to do. She snail-mails the original. She just needs a hi-res image. I asked if she did any larger pieces and she said she doesn't since a larger image would put more spacing between the dot/lines and you lose the effect of the Stipple technique. $600 is a bit stiff, but I think it would be extremely flattering to anyone who's a disciple of the WSJ. These illustrations are truly iconic. Great conversation piece, I'd say.... especially signed by the artist.

If I decide to get one done, I would definitely ask her to include the same pen she used for the drawing and frame it along with the drawing under glass.

A couple of Noli Novak's drawings:

Has anybody had this done? I've been thinking about getting a couple of these done for people as Christmas gifts.

Also, how effective are the new apps at doing this?

Surprisingly ineffective. At least that's been my experience.
