I just have no idea what this means.

Just stating I don't have the cash that would allow me to buy enough of the stock to make a difference. I would be putting all my eggs in one basket with the amount of money that I play the stock market with. I have my investments such as 401k and roth IRA and mutual funds but with the couple grand of play money I have doesn't make sense to buy 10 shares of apple. IMO.

Still don't know what this means. The per-share price of the stock is basically literally irrelevant. If you want to invest $X in the stock, then do so. You should be entirely indifferent to the per-share price.

No offense, but if you don't already know/understand this, then you probably shouldn't be dabbling in equities to begin with.

None taken. And with the money I use to buy and sell I am more looking to make a 20% gain then selling and so on. It wasn't anything I was looking for long term growth. That's why I have other investment vehicles. Just trying to make a quick buck for fun. I treat this money as my gambling money and nothing more. Yes a waste but it was something I wanted to try and am finding out more and more that I would rather just stick to mutual funds bc I don't know enough about the whole business.

That's great. I just don't understand what Apple's per-share price has to do with that.

20% is 20% I get that, it just seems that the penny stocks I have been playing lately it is easier for them to have a 20% swing (higher or lower) as opposed to a higher dollar stock. I see what I am doing now as nothing more than gambling very short term that would hopefully net me some gain. I would feel trapped in apple even if it is a good company and stock bc I would have to hold it longer than a week. Am i ever going to make money this way I would bet against me but this is my fun instead of betting on football.

This goofy market continues to do goofy things with Apple this week.

Down 17 or so in 2 days even though there is literally no reason for it to be happening.

I will probably take a wait and see approach with this stock. Wish I bought some a while back though.

Isn't the new iphone having widely reported connectivity problems? Just saying.

eta: Plus the markets are down overall 3% or so the past two days (I think that's your point)

Yeah, exactly.

Everyone gets hit on a week like this but it is insane that Apple is down 17 in two days with no real reason.

Hell, the Verizon rumors look stronger than ever this week, for instance.

It is nuts.

I think it's telling that you choose to talk in points rather than percentages.

What's nuts is you claiming to have a handle on Apple's valuation inside of 5% either way.

I'm no match for you on these matters. I know your background.

I just look at Apple and wonder how any company that is blowing the doors off as much as it is can be getting hit like it has this week in a sane market.

*it has an unbelievable amount of cash on hand
*the iPad and 4 have far exceeded expectations as far as moved product.
*the Verizon talk has moved from rumor to almost a sure thing which would, by most estimates mean 12 million additional iPhones moved in 2011.
*it is ramping up to move into China and pound that Asian market share like it does in Japan.
*it's second quarter report is going to slay

I respect you. Not being a smart arse, I swear.

Explain to me why Apple is retreating under these circumstances.

Seriously.

I certainly know no more about Apple than you do. I just question why you are so confident in your ability to appropriately value an entire company so huge and complex.

FWIW, I have no opinion whatsoever on its valuation.

I'm not throwing stones, but this is beginning to sound like the same path and mantra many people on here were on with natty gas, the shale plays, and CHK in 2008, that didn't end so well.

Apple blew up in the last year in the same bad economy with less upside indicators than it is showing now.

That's why I'm saying the beating it is taking this week is counterintuitive.
