A nanny can deduct work clothes as a work expense, but lawyers, CPSa and plant workers cannot? I thought essentially only airline workers could deduct work clothes and that was only because of their strong lobby. Basically, I thought if nanny clothes could double for everyday wear they are not deductible. You have taught me something today. I think I may take up nanny work as a side hustle just for this deduction.

If you are paid as a contractor, yes. As a contractor can purchase a "uniform" for themselves. All your examples are not contractors.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it, the biggest issue with paying a nanny as an "employee" that I've seen is that a lot of home insurance won't allow you to have an employee working inside your home. Its basically making your home a place of business. I don't know if there are exceptions or not? Obviously contractors are always allowed.

I don't think this is a huge issue though but CPA's and lawyers always like to bring it up. If it was a big enough issue I'd think there would be "nanny" companies out there that basically are like payroll service companies and just are a third party to collect payment and employee the nanny.

I’ve done it both cash and W-2. It’s a huge pain in the arse to do it on the books tbh.
