are you serious? 95% of that demographic don't pay shite.
Well payment is a different conversation. I mean just understanding what your insurance paid, what you owe, why you got 6 bills for the same appointment, etc. If 3 pretty financially literate grown men are struggling with it I don't know how the lower tier of society has ANY hope of figuring it out

I still refuse to pay the $120 bill for the bullshite hearing test we said we didn’t want for our second. $120 and the kid is almost 2

After a few months, some parents may like this idea. At least for a few days.

So, yesterday I got a bill for $25 from my child's pediatrician. Which is odd, because whenever we go, we pay a $25 co-pay. The date of service is June 7th, which is almost 10 months ago. According to the bill, Blue Cross made their portion of the payment on January 9th, 7 months after the visit and almost 3 months ago from now.
I checked my bank records, no record of making a payment around June 7th. Wife is going to check her records today. In no way do I remember taking the kid to the doctor 10 months ago.
I'm sure we took her and I guess something happened and for some reason they didn't collect payment and we owe it, but maaan there has to be a better way.

That's the feeling everyone seems to have after going through the process.
And from what I understand, all medical bills are negotiable. You can call and make them an offer and they might accept. It seems they bill an outrageous amount even though they know most either don't pay or will pay less than that, so they have to start the bill higher with the expectation that it will get negotiated down. My response to that is why don't you just bill reasonable amounts to begin with so all your patients don't feel like they're getting screwed, then maybe we won't have this stupid charade.
And of course it doesn't help when you don't see a bill until a year later when you can't even remember the appointment well enough to dispute any charges.

So after chatting with my wife, she remembered that was the time of year when the kid usually gets her annual well-child visit, which under our plan, is at no co-pay cost to us. (Which is why we didn't pay a co-pay).
So I call the billing office, and I'm told that twice the claim was submitted to BCBS, twice rejected, and the third time it was accepted. Billing office is saying they submitted it to BCBS as a well-child visit but BCBS processed it as a sick-visit, and basically there is nothing else the billing office can do, that we need to take it up with BCBS.
So now I have a choice to make.
1) Do I deal with the obnoxiousness that is BCBS in order for them to hopefully fix it?
2) Or do i just pay the $25 and be done with it?
