So here's a new one.

Our options at the moment are Citizens and Dover Bay. That's all that seems to be writing in St. Bernard at the moment.

Got a quote from Dover Bay for twice what I was paying Southern Fidelity - 2000 sq ft home... 4,700, 240K home / 140K contents, 2 percent storm / 1 percent everything else

They tell me today... I need to prove that the house was rebuilt after Katrina... and I can only prove this by showing copies of permits and/or getting the contractor to sign an affidavit.

The house was obviously rebuilt - evidence by the house itself. The house was gutted and sold after the storm... rebuilt... sold... lived in for a while... then sold to us.

No concept as to who the contractor was and/or if they are even still around 15 plus years later.

So looks like I'll be headed to the clerk's office to try to pull copies of old permits.

This is insane.

unfortunately its not new ... they want you to jump through hoops ... because at least they can prove to the insurance department they are making "good faith" efforts to write policies as approved at rates they were approved for ...

house prices gunna get slammed over time if this keeps up

This is the third time I have had to get insurance on this house... first time when I bought it and second time about four years ago when I shopped it... never been asked this before.

Hopefully sooner than later, the taxpayers of america shouldn't be rebuilding your homes every time there's a hurricane.

Amazing how idiotic some people are.

NC, SC, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, La & Texas ALL have to worry about a major storm yearly.

It's not just a La thing. What about the yearly wildfires in Cali? Tornadoes in Midwest?

Ask if they’ll take a 4 point inspection from a licensed contractor.
