Is anyone here an alumni of UNO’s program? The cost of this program is considerably cheaper than Loyola or Tulane’s, and I was wondering if someone could provide some insight on their experience.

Co-worker of mine is currently in it. He says its a lot of group projects and work so as long as you are in a good group where everyone pulls their own weight it shouldn't be difficult or taxing. Some of the other groups are struggling. Even though classes are supposed to be every other weekend (if I remember correctly) he says a lot of the time they don't actually go to class. He will generally get to work at 5:30 or 6:00 in the morning to do school work before starting actual work at 7:00.

I did the traditional MBA (not EMBA program) a few years back. I was working at the time so having the ability to take night classes was great, along with it being 1/3 of the cost of other programs in the area. They seem to cater the program to students who work, so there aren’t as many day classes offered.
Overall I didn’t find it overly difficult, just time consuming. I came from a non-business undergrad so it was beneficial to me and definitely opened doors that wouldn’t have otherwise been open. Others in my class who had a business background said a lot of the classes were similar to undergrad with an additional group project or two thrown on top.
Tulane or Loyola may get you better connections/open doors if you want to leave the area. If you want to stay around New Orleans I feel like the UNO MBA holds its weight. Where I work in NOLA we have people with MBAs from all three and you wouldn’t know the difference between them. Ultimately, I feel like your decisions depends on what you want to do with the MBA.

Thanks for the responses. I’d be getting it mainly just to move up where I am currently in NOLA, so networking outside of New Orleans isn’t highly important. I also know of a guy who did UNO MBA and got offers from out of state and is currently working in finance in Austin.

UNO is a check-the-box program and not much more. Nothing wrong with that but I wouldn't expect it to open a ton of doors in your career.
