It's going to differ company to company but being in Houston will help to do more O&G work. You will still likely do work in other industries, especially at larger firms.
Thats what I was thinking, I would love to get on with one of the MBB energy groups.

Barry, which firm are you going to? My consulting firm hires UT part timers.

You at Alvarez & Marsal (sp?) or Deloitte?
I did my torture and finished my MBA @UT a few years before Barry and they were the main mgmt. consulting hiring firms.
I must say it worked out rather well.

Even though I'm about 4 years out and a lot can change UT is my number one for full time and I got into smu advanced admission but I would have to get a big scholarship to make it worth it that place is expensive!

Fair enough. I'm at one of the firms listed a few post above here.

Do any of you guys have tips for the interviews? I have heard case and point is highly regarded.

Form a group with other people wanting to break into consulting and practice cases over and over with them. Those books will provide guidelines for setting up the case, but practice is what will help you stay calm and not freeze up when being interviewed.

If you don't mind me asking, do you work in S&O?

Agreed. Remember, its more about how you think and your process than an actual solution.

Although, my perception of MBB is changing slightly. I know someone who works in it and I think I have much better exposure and work/life than she does.
However, those firms ball out on the spending - book business class every flight and around $50k in a slush fund for the analysts/associates to go have 'bonding' time. But, they work their asses into the ground like a mortar and pestle.

Now that I have been in the consulting industry for awhile, if I ever decide to leave for another firm, I sure hope I don't need to prep for a case. If my mind cannot analyze things by now, then I'm up a creek.

Why would MBB care about a 3.4 in undergrad if you got into Stanford's MBA program (or any respected program where MBB recruits)?

That's a great question haha. But one of my advisors went to Princeton and a had below a 3.5 then went to Stanford for his mba and said the only reason he got interviews was because of the no grade disclosure (he worked for one of the MBB) and he said that it is so competitive they have to find ways to wade through the applicants.
ETA: They also look at your GMAT scores and sometimes SAT scores.
