Anybody got anything lately?
I've been swamped with work the last two weeks, and I decided to use my spare time to crack open one book from a stack I received from Christmas. So now I've completed my first book, and dived back into the Money Talk threads. I have not touched the coins the last two weeks except for doing heads or tails for deciding on pizza for dinner or not.
With that being said, I placed an order for a box of half dollars. My last two boxes I received were already searched and marked, and resulted in no finds. So I've completed 3 boxes of halves, and found 3 notable Kennedy's in my first box, with years 1967, 1968 and 1969. I hope to improve upon that small amount of success next week. My box arrives Wednesday.

Thank you for posting pics of your collection
I have been amazed by the awesome collections that people possess here. This thread has been surprisingly very educational. I came into it with low expectations and a lot of curiosity if that explains my surprise

No thank you for starting this thread. You are absolutely correct in that it has been very educational and fun seeing everybody's collections, finds and recent acquisitions.
You've created a monster RickAstley

Random question, but are values of silver dollars (Morgans, Peace, etc.) largely based on the value of silver? Sure the cull ones and ones not in good shape are, but what about the high graded ones? Is there any where to find out what the same coin at a given time cost?
Maybe for some clairty and just as an example, lets say I pay $50 for BU Morgan and the price of silver is $30/oz. Then, the price of silver goes up to $55/oz. Does the Morgan then become worth significantly more?
I realize this sounds dumb as hell, but it was just something I was thinking about regarding older silver coins.

I thought I would bump this back up with a question about Morgans.
I would like to buy a few Morgan's that will potentially go up in value but not sure what to look for. Should I be looking for rare dates, condition, graded coins?
I have trouble determining what is a good deal on sites like ebay. Any help?

I thought about bumping this thread earlier this morning. Its been a while since we had any new contributions.
I can't help you with answers as most of what I have was given as gifts over time by my elders.
I'm finally going through it, but I've put it off for the past two weeks. I will try to hit it hard next weekend, since its a three day weekend, and have some stuff to show

Just bought 6 Silver Eagles. They gave me 6 different years so that's pretty nice of them.
STACK EM UP!

I got a box of half dollars last Wednesday and just got through 30 of the rolls. So far one 1966 40% silver round has been found. I'm putting the rest aside for later. I am trying to work in a box or so every 3-4 weeks

Brink & Chuck: Here's what I did: bought 30 different uncirculated Morgans in Dansco albums for around $1600. Now I am adding a new Morgan every 3 months.
You may want to start by buying 5 or 10 different, and keep going. These will be the common dates/mint marks, and the next coin will cost a bit more, etc.

With the dip in the price of silver today (29.80), stopped in my LCS and blew a little cash on 2 morgans, 2 peace, and 1 2013 silver eagle.
Yippee! Keep on stacking.

What year/mint Morgan's did you get? Quality? How much you pay? I'm not too big on peace dollars but I sho do love me some Morgans and Eagles

Hey guys, I'm new to coin collectiong. I have a guy wants to sell pre 1964 quarters for $5 each. Seems reasonable, with melt value at 5.37 today. Would you buy them? Anything in particular I should look at/for on the quarters?
TIA

If he's selling them under smelt, the answer is always YES.

If you're buying them for the silver content I think you are in good shape with the information at hand. If you want the quarters for their numismatic value, study the condition that the coin is in and compare prices of the coin for similar dates and mint.

I would see if he would come off melt value by 10%.

Are there that many people out there that will just buy bulk pre-1964 quarters and times?

Any of the buy gold and silver places will buy. Usually will pay a percentage less than melt value. I keep the pre 64 quarters and dimes as scrap silver. I pick them up for under melt when I can.

I havent bought any silver coins, but if I caught a good price, I would certainly purchase a lot of silver coins. I've been resorting to hunting through boxes of halves for my junk silver stash.
