Interesting that you think I'm hook, line, & sinker for Ramsey.
Guess it would help to tell you that I disagree with his investing philosophy.
I do agree with his "no debt" philosophy, however.
Where does that put me in your book?

As a very conservative investor who should probably explain himself better.

You're not a real investor, my friend. I know this because a real investor listens to reason/the gut and the mind and weighs the two against common sense. Where do you stand?

Now there's some fire.

Reason tells me yes, Gut says yes, Mind says yes, common sense says yes. The only part of me saying no is the Dave Ramsey radio show listener.

Do you understand the question that I was originally asking?

Brah, L1 CFA and MBA student, you know the answer to this (fwiw my most recent student loan was 6.8%, the first two (04 and 05)....1.88%.... ....).

Are you saying I'm wrong about the interest free loans? I've never taken them out before, just currently toying with the idea, but my friends told me that the federally subsidized loans were 0% interest until graduation. I am yet to do any due diligence.

"Adults" like this suck IMO.

More often that not, people that rattle off this line are scared that someone younger than them is actually better and smarter at what they do.

Yeah, Warren Buffet has made his money holding unleveraged debt and avoiding equity.

Don't pull that card if you want to be taken seriously.

If you think it's true, use it to prove him wrong, not to call him dumb.

This, indeed, is the definition of irony.

This has nothing to do with life experience (other than the 4 other guys who shared their "life experiences," you know, arguing against you).

No man, not at all. I have been taking loans out since I bombed freshman year. That was 6 years ago. Guess how much interest I've paid? I've even got some super-subsidized loan from LSU, a school I don't even attend anymore, that is still interest-free. You don't have to pay interest until you are no longer a full-time student + 6 months (for the super-sub LSU one) and +12 months for regular stafford loans. To me, its simply a NPV calculation. However, I have no real life experience, so I can't tell you I quite understand this financial voodoo.

ETA: If you go to salliemae.com you can find any and everything you need to know to make your decision, other than the interest rate. Apply for it, and if its too high, just turn it down. It doesn't cost you a dime to back out if they somehow hit you with like 10% or something for whatever reason.
