We’ll see. We’re talking $4 short positions.

How is this in comparison to the net short in shares?
Posted on 1/27/21 at 10:59 pm to JohnnyKilroy
supposedly still a high short percentage out there LINK

You're right, it's a war of attrition. But like you said, those short shares at $4 are probably long covered and they're building higher and higher short positions. They could have started new short positions above 300 all day today. They wouldn't necessarily be margin called if the stock trades sideways. The float may still be 139%, but those positions can be in the 300's.
My point is as long as you have people selling, the shorts still have opportunity to essentially "trade" out their position for a higher one. This only truly works if you had a united front that just held. The influx of buyers is great, but how long can it last?

What's insane is I bet it's higher now.
If this is the 1/15 short data that is supposed to drop today, that is only accounting for short positions through 1/15. Before all this insanity happened and I bet some retard funds saw these insane prices and decided to open up a brand new short position.

We don't know. We're in uncharted territory.
But as I've said before. The events of today (discord, brokerages being down, CNN saying that talking about stocks on the internet should be banned) have turned this into a mission from god to not sell.

Hey if the shareholders at the hedge funds are on board with their money going towards 50, 60, 70 and even up to 80 percent interest rates on those positions, have at it.
Of course there's money involved, so all bets are truly off, but this went from a money making play with a side of morals to a morals play with a side of massive money making.

yea I also believe a lot of retail boomers have opened new short positions. the msm pretty much makes them believe that we apes don't know what we're doing.

I cant see over 500. But what do I know.

It’s from 1/15? Can that not easily be accessed on a Bloomberg terminal in semi real time?
Realize dark pools and what have you but what’s the realistic delay.
If the short position keeps going up, higher OTM/ITM, does it ever get covered?
What is the end game?

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that the numbers released today are the "official" numbers but they are 2 weeks delayed (for what reason, I don't know).
There is ortex data and some other firms that give estimates that are said to be fairly accurate. They are the ones saying that short interest has hovered in the 139 range

My experience with crypto fomo? It breaks quickly. But this is a different animal. You need more FUD to drive new money entering.

This is fundamentally different from crypto. There's all sorts of technical machinations here driving up the price that don't really exist within the crypto space (correct me if I'm wrong on this rocket)

there are bitcoin futures/options yeah, but this gme situation is unprecedented and I don't see why $500+ is out of the picture considering all we know.
some might be underestimating how many people are going to be coming into this trade again tomorrow and the resolve of wsb

It's never too late is all I'm saying.
I'm buying in whatever $500 gets me tomorrow morning. We thought $150 buyers were gonna be upside down...now $230/ share is a steal.
Not only does this still have traction, it got blasted on national news and now the entire world has FOMO. Japan, France and Germany are jumping in the rocket.
$1000 ain't a meme boys
