Just curious if any small business owners (professional company, <50 employees) has found a cheaper alternative to health insurance coverages. My company's policy, which is middle of the road, is about to go up 30%. I am starting to look into alternatives...other providers, HSA's, etc.

TIA.

Our company has around 140 employees so I know it doesn't directly correlate to your situation. For the first time in our companies history (been open since 1947) health insurance has surpassed our builder's risk insurance. We currently cover 100% of employee and family coverage through blue cross blue shield. It runs about $750/month per employee through our plan. We will continue to provide it as long as we can stay profitable but it may come to a point where it is cheaper to pay them a few dollars an hour more and let them be on their own for health insurance.

WE are in the same boat, we have been sucking it up the last couple of years, but looks like this year we will be making some tough decisons, We have a great plan with small co-pays but will be looking at cheaper high deductiable plans. I am looking for other alternatives as well, monthly Health insurance for me and the wife is more than our house note

Look at doing a PEO. It's a huge cost, time, and headache savings.

No, I don't run a PEO, we use a PEO to handle the employees since our business is ultra small. I wanted the flexibilty of not being really tied down.

I found a high deductable policy ($5k). It covers me (31), wife (30) and our 6month old for about $300/month. We started a HSA for each employee enrolled and the deductable ($5k for family and $2500 for single) is incorporated into their yearly salary as a tax free bonus. Once the deductable is met, Insurance pays 100% of EVERYTHING. We just started in August, so the only thing we have been out of pocket is the doctors visit for my sons immunizations, but I just wrote a check from my health savings account to cover the cost.

The company that I work for use UHC . They pay for the whole family . He puts in $ 6,000 into a HRA every Nov 1 . $ 6,000 is maxed Deductable for the whole family . $2,000 Ded. for 3 people . So anytime we go to the Doctor or Hospital it is $ 0 co pay . They file a claim and it comes out of the HRA . We had 73 people working at the Company before Obama shut Deepwater drilling down . The owner was paying $ 33,000 per month to UHC . Thats about $ 452.00 per month .

You have to deal with these INS companys to get the best deal . Get them to think out of the Box.

Oh now we only have 10 people working . So sad that our on Gov is going to put us out of work .
