Just went through this. I was trying to deal over phone/email for a few weeks using autotrader and searching inventories and no one really would give me their rock bottom price. Ended up finding the truck I wanted at a dealership in Gonzales and swung by Friday. I got them down to 9k off MSRP and a little more than KBB trade-in value for my existing truck. Swung by some other dealerships and no one could beat that so I pulled the trigger Saturday. My experience was they take you more seriously if you go in. But I also know 2 people who recently bought out of state over the phone or email who were able to work a deal they were happy with. If you have a dealership nearby I would go in to at least establish a local baseline price.

Sorry for the delay but to your question: it's the closest I have to a local dealer, a little over an hour away. Subaru Outback Premium, option package 15 (keyless, blind spot detect, moonroof...). All in - $38,800.

Total bullshite
the banks pay 1% of the amount financed as a reserve up to a whopping $500 for the loan paper, it has nothing to do with the front end price of the vehicle if you finance with the dealer or you don’t. Most dealers are looking to blow out any new car in order to get an allocation for one to replace it down the road, if they don’t sell the new ones on their lot then they don’t get any future allocations for more inventory. Dealers make $ on pre owned vehicles not new ones, unless it’s something rare or hard to get….. it all depends what you are looking to purchase. This post was edited on 7/28/23 at 11:43 am
