We have USAA who have been great, but super steep. We bundle home & auto and Im just trying to see if i can save some on our monthly HO payment. Would hate to leave USAA but after recent refi it seems like USAA is very steep. Are there any good sites/rercs for shopping home & auto?

Call a local independent insurance broker. They will run you through tons of different providers and find you the best price on the policy you want.

Same. I've been thinking of switching for years but if something ever does happen it's nice to know they will take care of you.

Exactly. Even when I still worked on the P&C side, I refused to write my own homeowners policy because I was afraid of leaving USAA then having something happen. Not that I didn’t have faith in my own carriers, but USAA claims is a much faster and easier process than almost any other company.

When it comes to P&C companies, you definitely get what you pay for.

*full disclosure*
I now only work on the life side of the business but even if I still worked with P&C, I’d probably still have my home with USAA.

I went with the local independent guy as well. Have not had any issues, but haven't had any claims either.

Do you think USAA would be willing to accept a quote from another company and consider reducing their rates to match? If you are considering moving companies, may be worth a shot.

Checked rates with USAA annually for years and after several attempts they were competitive enough to switch. At renewal the following year homeowners increased 40% and auto around 20%. No claims and 800+ credit. Was disappointed.

Local broker is the correct advice IMHO.
