Long story short I pay a monthly rent for the apartment and all utilities and my power is out. My landlord doesn't know why it is out and supposedly has someone working on it. How long without power is it reasonable for me to ask him to put me in a hotel til the issue gets fixed? We have a good relationship but more so legally speaking.

No lease. Just a handshake deal.

May be a lesson learned here then...

If there's no lease there's not a lot you can do honestly.

Have you called the power company and reported an outage ? Do so and they say it is from an unpaid bill then time to find a new place

this happened with my tenants. Entergy said it was not their problem. Electrician ($3000) said it was their problem. Ended up being Entergy's problem.

Anyway, I gave them the tenants the pro rata time the power was out back in rent and recovered it from Entergy.
