Anyone know if it's possible to change a Venture One card to the Venture? I've got a few large purchases coming up and would like to take advantage of the better rewards rate. Thanks.

If you're going to get that card just try to sign up for it straight up because upgrading the card won't earn you the spending bonus they offer for new signups. If you can of course

If they don't give me the bonus when I upgrade can I combine the rewards accounts, I'd like to cancel the venture one account and not have both open

No idea I've never tried it.

I'd also look into Barclay's card that is like this one because it's way better than venture

You should be able to transfer the existing rewards from the old account to the new account. I have successfully transferred them from a business card account to a Venture account and also transferred them from a Capital One checking rewards account to a VentureOne account.

Representative said that I could transfer points without losing any, but I would have to do it before I closed the venture one account. Said they currently don't have a way to combine multiple rewards accounts.

I'm intrigued by the Barclays card. What makes it better than the venture card after the initial bonus and does the travel bonus make up for the higher yearly fee post year one? Can you get that waived in subsequent years, I know capone will waive sometimes if you call them.

I don't know about the waiver, but the Barclay card earns 2x on everything like the Cap One, however, any time you redeem points for travel you get 10% refunded, so you're effective rate is 2.2x on purchases. You also can do partial redemptions, while Cap One requires that you cover the whole expense with points. Lastly, Barclay card comes with TripIt Pro subscription which is like a $40 value.
