One good indicator for folks day-trading the SPX.

Put the $ADD indicator on your watch list.
$ADD Indicator Investopedia

When it is at extremes, positive or negative, there's a very high chance the HOD or LOD will happen in the final hour of the market, respectively.

Today with $ADD at +2500, we hit the HOD in the final hour.

It's a good indicator to look at to help determine market direction in power hour!

ETA: Extremes are usually >2000, or <-2000

Deltas on the SCVs on SPX looking a bit iffy now. Let’s see if the S&P can break through 4000 with any kind of conviction.

Yep. Except for the massive spikes in SPX, this was a pretty good week. Some expire on 11/18, but I’ll probably have to roll up & out some of the other SPX SCV positions next week. DIS, RTX, AAPL and PYPL all expired worthless and SQ (finally!) got called away. Other than fighting the flu, I can’t complain.

Have you got any good ones going on?

I've got some CML Trade Machine plays on. They are higher delta short put spreads for the most part (40/30) based on algorithms that involve the stock being over the 10 and 200 day moving averages. So higher risk but they do well because you're not in them until the stocks are in a defined uptrend.

These currently include AON, SIG and OKTA

sold some November puts (credit spreads) on Meta yesterday after the drop, and did the same thing with AMZN after the drop this morning.

What could have been. My initial trades turned out to be good ones, those put spreads made me good money. Unfortunately, I got nervous a a few days after entering. I decided to sell some call spreads as well to create an iron condor. Ultimately, the call spreads went in the money. My losses were minimal but my impatience turned a very profitable trade into a net loss. Don't be like me, lol.

Keep us updated on how those work out. I’ve used CML’s basic tools, but not their subscription service. I’ve read that the backtester is good though.

Don’t feel bad. I would have probably followed you into that trade. I did something similar with SQ and FB earlier this year. I turned some naked puts into jade lizards and had to close out the call sides for overall losses.

Two standard deviation moves are all but impossible to account for. Thankfully, they’re about as rare as an honest politician.

The backtester is great. Of course, with backtesting you have to make sure not to overfit. I'll keep you posted

I closed out the AON short put trade, per the backtesting rules (50% of max profit). $712 risked per sold contract, closed for $142 per contract gain.

Still holding SIG (short spread) and OKTA (call diagonal)

That is fascinating. I guess the theory is you are rewarded with theta decay for holding over the weekend. I suppose the win rate for iron condors with the short legs at delta 16 would be the same

Posting here too for OptionsThreadGang:

Every day, I sell a 80-120 (varies) wide 5 delta Iron Condor. Acts as a synthetic strangle.

Sell a 5 delta call and 5 delta put.
Buy long wings for $.05 on both sides.
Target profit $1.50. 500% stops on short legs.

Here was today’s trade:

Here’s November results thus far:

Here is backtested data for the strategy YTD in 2022:

Threw a flyer on a hunch for some Friday exp. Disney 97Ps in for just under 1K. First options in a few years. Had it going my way for a bit now she’s clawing back up

Buy in @.96 , got as high as 1.80. Had my finger on the trigger @1.60 on half of it and now barely above water. Right play but late to the party and late to leave.

OK. I was just about to ask if you were long or short those puts. So you went long. Well, you’ve got some time. The Iger euphoria might wear off a bit, especially if the market swoons this week.

Volume should be light this week, so expect the unexpected. I don’t have any DIS exposure, but good luck on your play.

Executed a short put vertical spread on SPX @ 3805 short strike expiring 11/30. Managed to hit near the top of pricing today. Depending on price action and volatility the rest of the week, I’ll close at 60% max profit (already close) or let it run to expiration (bad, greedy habit of mine ).
