My question is how will Netflix continue to obtain content for viewers on stream? The days of DVDs are coming to an end much like VHS.

I can rent any movie or series off DVD from Netflix but I can't get everything on stream. This is why Apple TV with the jailbreak is appealing to me. I want what I want, when I want it. Either streaming on my TV, IPad or Iphone.

Even though the competition is closing in on Netflix IMO. The advantage for Netflix is that more people are moving away from DVD shipping and going to streaming. Most people will give them a look or try first. Again, Netflix securing content for streaming is the biggest question moving forward?

Amazon has exclusive rights to some shows, but I'm not aware of them producing their own content.

You would be wrong.

This is my feeling too. It would be interesting if Apple decided to use some of that $200Billion in stagnant cash to become a major player in the Streaming Market. Would shake Wall Street up big time.

If there is anything that Apple does perfectly nearly every time, it's content delivery and user experience. I don't know if they would dominate the video streaming market but they would instantly become a major player if they wanted to go that route.

what you're on about is pointless in the scheme of actually watching/consuming content...

If it is difficult to find content to watch, people are going to find an easier way.

Netflix's other advantage is that they have more content than their competitors. But there is no incentive for media producers to only license their content to Netflix. They just don't have any real competition yet.

I would consider Amazon Prime a real competitor. You can stream on many of the same devices and its cheaper than Netflix streaming only option.

I'll look up Roku, but "pay for what you watch" is what I've always wanted. Give me Netflix, Hulu Plus, live sports (CBS, ESPN, ABC, etc), and HBO and I'm good. I currently pay $155/month for cable (HD-DVR) HBO, and Internet. I'd do anything to lower it.

If ESPN streamed their channels live on some kind of ROKU or Apple TV channel, I'd be all over it. Cable would be gone forever for me.

I am perplexed why no one does this yet. I want to watch live, streaming content WITHOUT a cable provider. I want to do it legally. Come on people, satisfy my needs!

You'd think ESPN (Disney) would be able to figure some way to distribute its channels to streaming devices. I mean, they did spend tons of money on ESPN Mobile, so you have to imagine they could at least give it a shot. Of course, I am sure there are some deals that were made with cable providers, etc. that may prohibit this.

Are, IMO the only places where Roku falls short. I think you can get HBO GO on the Roku as long as you're a cable subscriber, but obviously that defeats the purpose.

There is a promising new company called Aereo that is working on providing OTA channels in HD on the Roku. They are already set up in NYC and have plans to expand to other areas. They say they will be in ATL this year (ETA: they've got some legal hurdles to overcome but they seem to have a good shot).

Also, if your provider gives you access to WatchESPN you can stream it using a channel called Plex. Don't quite know how it works though but people seem to swear by it.

Talk about shake up Wall Street. I think securing streaming content is where apple should be headed personally. Apple should be trying to lock up streaming from HBO, Showtime, Stars, Cinemax, and AMC. These companies have Apps that I stream on ex. HBO Sopranos on Stream or Showtimes Californication, Starz Spartacus.

Currently can stream Netflix on just about any mobile device, and XBOX. Can't do do that with Prime, unless something changed recently?

You can do Prime on both the PS3 and the 360.

How much does ESPN make per subscriber?

I want to save it's a few dollars. Why not offer all of ABC/ESPN for $20 a month?

That would cause a huge number of people swtiching to just netflix/prime+

ESPN.
