I’m in the process of switching my accounts from EJ to Vanguard. Vanguard is requiring me to complete a “One and the Same” form (maiden name/married name) and an “Account in Kind Transfer” form. These forms require a signature guarantee or a Medallion signature guarantee. The form indicates this can be done through a bank or other financial institution. It specifically says a notary is not sufficient.

I called Chase and they said they do not do them. Anyone have any lead on where I might be able to get one of these special signatures and what it might cost me?

Call other banks. It is a financial institution stamp. If you have a large brokerage office in town they may have someone there that can do it.

I think it’s similar to a notary in that you have to have someone that is registered to do it, but there aren’t nearly as many as notarys, so if you just called a chase branch they may not have had someone there to do it for you.

Whenever vanguard asks for the medallion I’ve legit never done it. I always went to a regular notary and all my account actions have been processed.

That’s what was weird - chase said they had a person who could do the medallion stamp, but they would only use it for one particular type of transfer, and that they would not use it for my particular forms.

Your local bank can do it. The Medallion stamp is like a notary stamp except done by a banking institution. You have to show proof of ID, and you may have to sit and chat for a couple of minutes with the bank representative. However, it is free as long as you bank there. If not, there might be a nominal fee.
