What is the group project like for MKT 701 with Khan? Do we have to interview an actual company? Other than a large amount of time required for this course, is it difficult? Not having a business background and this being my first semester in the program, is it wise to take MKT701 with Khan and ACCT701 with Yin at the same time? Sorry for all of the questions and any tips would be greatly appreciated!

@tigerlsus

I can't say much regarding FIN 710, but you've certainly done a good job with the other two. If ANY classes can be tripled up on, it's ISDS 702 and 705.

Of course, the ability to triple is highly dependent on your own ability and schedule. However, those two classes are the lightest and second lightest time requirements in the problem.

To give you the short version:

ISDS 705/Lin - Lightest course load in program. MAX time requirement is about 8 hours PER TEST. There are 3 tests. I spent a little less time than this for an A in the course.

ISDS 702/Koksal - Second lightest course load in the program. I'd estimate that the weekly course load MAX is about 8 hours. Depends on you. It's heavily condensed information without a lot of "wasted" time (unless you count the slow pace of his videos).

In short, these two classes combined are less time consuming than many other single classes. That said, ISDS 705 with Lin is the most worthless class in the program, which ISDS 702 is the best class in the Data Analytics concentration and one of the best classes that I've taken in the program.

Ok, Thanks.! Generally, MKT 701 is the toughest one. Can we compare MKT 701 between Dr. James and Dr.Khan or others.?

Baroqen, think you might have the course numbers crossed up at the end of your post.

Hey everyone, first post but long time lurker. Like most, this forum convinced me to plunge into the LSUS MBA program, so thank you all for the helpful posts.

I hate to contribute my first post with a question, BUT...

Just finished MADM 701 with McGlaughlin, everyone’s feedback was spot on, so far so good.

The feedback on ISDS 705 (Lind) has been underwhelming regarding course work and difficulty; however, I just looked at the syllabus and the group project, like a few have posted, looks to be new and by all means... horrific.

Can anyone confirm? I don’t want to violate the honor code and spell out the specific concerns, but at first glance this looks to have been setup for a brick/mortar class and now transposed into the online curriculum? Can anyone confirm if this group project is an a** pain or lighter than it appears? I start next week and am considering dropping as a project like this does not seem conducive to present schedule.

Thanks!

My review of Imran Khan (MKT 701).
2 Activities @ 25 points each - Usually 2-3 questions reviewing material covered in book/lecture.

1 Case Analysis @ 50 points - In-depth review of a company (provided); 4 questions to answers with sub-headings

6 weekly Exams @ 50 points each - 25 questions @ 30 minutes (listen to and take notes during the lectures)

1 Final Exam @ 75 points - covers material learned throughout the course; he does a Zoom session before the final and will tell you what to review for the exam.

1 Extra credit @ 25 points - greatly appreciative of; detailed writing - very much like a case study.

The activities, case study and extra credit will require in-depth answers, but I found it pretty straight-forward. Just review the chapters and listen to the lectures and you'll be fine. The textbook is like the other classes - an outdated PDF.

As far as the instructor, I found him very personable, easy to work with, and on the few times that I reached out he was very quick to reply. Seems to be an easy going chap. Slight accent, but nothing to really worry about. I would absolutely take another class with him.

Hopefully, this gives you a good idea of what to expect. You can absolutely take another class along with this one, but I wouldn't do ECON or FIN with it as that may take up too much of your time and make you crazy.

Good Luck!

Yeah I recall LSUS doesn’t use textbooks but was curious to see if it can help me through the course. Nervous about Finance

I didn’t take 701 with Darrat but have taken 710.

710 was straight forward. I used the syllabus to map out my time and that will be my strategy when I take his class for mkt 701. I’m saving it for the summer tho bc my kids will be out of school and it’s more fair to focus something that takes up a lot of time when they don’t have anything important going on.

It seems that is just one of the busier classes... some like Kahn others tolerate Darrat. Just to the minimal word requirement for all writing be concise and make great points backed by research. APA format to
The T and prepare for everything ahead of time.

There is a syllabus in course hero that may help you get a head start. Just google the title of book and add pdf and you’ll have a free link.

Anyone took:
Acct 701
fin 701
Mkt 730 recently... I need a straightforward ap2 course to make myself avail for my kids last months of school.

Thanks!!

If your company can offer up to 20k for your MBA, why don't you try U of I Urbana-Champaign? U of I is a 30 -33 MBA program and more prestigious school compare to LSUS (even compare to the value I think is a better choice for you) No offense, just curious.

There was no group project as the professor converted it to being an individual project.

Take a look at my review of Professor Khan. It should answer your questions.

Thanks! How did your classes go? I think I have the same ones you just took in AP2, MKT 701 (Kahn) & MADM 715 (Isaacs)?

MKT 701 was good. Finished up with a "B" due to a little of my own slacking.

I am only taking one class per term so I took Khan in AP1 and then I am taking Isaacs in AP2.

Might not have met their requirements, such as GPA or GMAT/GRE Scores. I was looking at another school and my undergrad GPA was off by 0.08 AND they wanted me to retake 2 classes that I had taken in my undergrad that I had gotten a "C" in.

Oh, I thought you were taking them together. Looks like we'll be taking Isaacs together.

I've taken ACCT 701 with Yin. I would take another class from her. It is very straightforward. One quiz & one test a week, no discussions, no papers. The final was the hardest exam but she gives you a practice test to take as many times as you want.
