GSMBA16,
I normally don't really get into my grades much, but since FIN720 is an elective, you're probably not going to get as many responses.
I thought the first FIN720 test was decently challenging, but a lot of it came from the awkward wording the teacher sometimes uses, especially on the true/false questions or where it wasn't 100% clear which currency was supposed to be compared against which (matters for percentage change calculations).
The structure and difficulty of the test was very similar to those from his FIN710 class last session. I got a 92.98% on this FIN720 test, which was lower than any of grades I got for FIN710. My general advice would be to be very comfortable with the practice problems in the textbook, consider investing time in setting up Excel sheets to quickly work the same kinds of problems quickly, and that he likes to ask you to solve for some part of the equation that he never had you solve for in the practice problems, so be ready for that, too. And for the weirdly-worded true/false questions...read that section of the textbook and just try to sort it out. Those are usually worth fewer points anyway. I had a lot of time left over on this test, but I nearly ran out of time on the third test of FIN710 (as did a lot of people on the internal discussion chat), so I'd strongly recommend that you pre-work the problems in Excel in case some particular test ends up being tight on time. It's also worth noting that the tests are not weighted evenly; that is, this test was worth 57/188 total available points, just over 30% of the course grade.
For everyone else talking about FIN701's first test,
I had 3 or 4 math problems (two sections each). I opted to just work them quickly and focus on getting answers for everything, then go back to show my work for potential partial credit. I didn't have time to show my work on everything, and submitted with 33 seconds left. I suspect I probably spent too much time on my writing, but it all worked out.

Yeah, I spent too much time on the writing for the Finance 701 test. I am more of a math person, so the exam threw me for a loop when I only saw two problems containing to math. Didn't do as well as I hoped, but now I know I need to focus on definitions because putting it in your own words can be tough

Yeah that Fin701 test threw me off. The book literally says "this calculation is extremely hard" and an example was not shown. I think that was the one I got wrong. Two of my qualitative questions were the same damn question but different wording. What the heck!
I ran out of time, but still managed a 91%. I literally thought I failed.

Also- how hard is the Econ 705 course? I am overwhelmed with traveling and working this new job, and I think I might try and change my class next term for something easier. Can I still swap classes for fall?

Also- how hard is the Econ 705 course?
1. 2 chapters to read
2. 2 1 hour videos to watch, which you will take a Moodle quiz on as you watch it.
3. A combined Moodle quiz that covers the 2 chapters together.
4. An assignment that has 4 - 6 fairly involved questions. This is the meat of the course.
5. And then you take your answers from #4 and answer questions in another online Moodle quiz.
Tasks 1 - 3 are easy and it's just a matter of putting the time in to do them. Task 4 was the wild card for me. Some weeks I was able to knock the assignment out in a couple of hours and my answers lined up perfectly with the quiz in task 5. Other weeks I had to spend significantly more time.
FWIW, I earned an 'A' in the course.

Took ECON 705 summer 2, and agree with all said above. It is also worth noting that you get two attempts on both the chapter quizzes and the overall module quiz. Your score is the average of the two attempts, if the 2nd is needed, and they give you the answers at the end of the 1st attempt.
The module assessments were mixed. A couple of them I struggled with, while some weren't so bad. I, too, finished with an A in the course.

Econ was the most difficult course of the entire program, in my opinion.

I have taken 4 courses. Econ and MADM 760 and now in ACCT 701 and FIN 701. ECON is the most mentally demanding of these 4, but the one I have enjoyed the most thus far.

I found ECON to be a struggle and the material was uninteresting to me. I'm 5 courses in and it has been my least favorite so far, even though I made an A in it

Thanks you guys! This is a lot of help.
I took the Econ/Statistics intro course, and it was 6-7 chapters a week and I was so overworked and realized I did not like economics at all.
Is this course similar to Badm 701? Or more interesting?

I have a trip to Tokyo and Shanghai during the last two weeks Fall AP2 course, so I want something that is super easy to turn in early and be done with so I can enjoy my trip. I might try and stick out ECON705, based on the weekly load. It doesn't seem as bad as other courses in terms of chapters and assignments.

I liked ECON 705 a lot more than BADM 701, but I think that was due to the fact that there was enough time to let the concepts sink in each module. Also, Shaughnessy actually *teaches*, wants you to learn the material, and holds Zoom sessions each week.

You have End of Module Assessments each week that are basically exams. He gives you a Module assignment that is identical to the EOM assessment. All you have to do is work it ahead of time and you'll have the answers to the assessment.
Not to hijack, but has anyone taken the MKT 701 exam yet? I'm unsure of what to expect so any pointers or information is greatly appreciated

quote:Items 4 and 5 are the closest thing to an exam for that course. He gives you the questions as a Word document and you have to work out the solutions on your own. (It is not uncommon for him to delete forum posts for people asking for help on these.)
So no exams for ECON?
When you feel like you've answered the questions accurately, you open the Moodle final assessment for that week which will have questions identical or very similar to what was in the Word document. You get one attempt and must submit it after opening it.
The risk, of course, is that you open the final assessment and discover the work you did for the past 2 - 4 hours (or longer) is incorrect because none of the answer choices align with your results. This is where I spent the majority of my time, working questions with slightly different assumptions to hedge my bets.

ECON was a slog. If you're looking for a break / easier work load, I'd take something else.
With that said, it wasn't a horrible class, and it was obvious that the teacher actually cares, but it did require a consistently large amount of work every week.
The chapters aren't bad. The video quizzes are easy. The self assessments are good. It's the primary weekly assignment (quiz) that got me.
His assignments for the quiz are much harder than the rest of the material in the chapters. It's neat in that it covers real world applications and makes you learn how to apply the material.
However, it was 7 weeks of high stress for me, but all in all it's not a bad class.

Has anyone attempted the Marketing exam? I'm trying to almost complete the case study tonight, and start studying for the exam by tomorrow night. And take the exam Wednesday.
Posted on 9/11/17 at 9:37 pm to MBAStudent
Not yet. Planning on getting started on the case study tomorrow and finishing it up by Wednesday. Then I will shift my focus to the exam. Hopefully by then someone will have taken it so they can give some advice on how to approach it.

I'm preparing to sign up of my last two courses Spring 2018 and was wondering if anyone had feedback on MADM 715 - Labor and Employment Law?
Posted on 9/11/17 at 11:04 pm to MBAStudent
How is the case study? I was thinking it would be a bear, but I really have no idea since I haven't read the case yet so that could be a false assumption.
I was going to try to take the exam before starting the case, but maybe I will do it the other way around since I am having a hard time with all the memorization. Its like an endless series of lists. If I do take the exam first I will take it tomorrow because I have to move on to the other things.
