I'm sure the program is great training but not having the ability to choose who you want to work for sounds like a power grab from some professor and institution.
It's a little bit of a power grab, but ultimately the "draft" is the reason the program is responsible for placing as many internships as it does. Also the students only drop their resume's with companies they are actually interested in. It's not like you will be picked up by a company you had no desire to work for.
Having multiple internship offers from all the big 4 is fine and dandy, but can you ultimately say your career will be any better or worse because you interned at one Big 4 vs the other? Ultimately, from an internship perspective all that will matter is the Big 4 on the resume.
The distinctions between the Big 4 don't matter until you are further in your career and more specialized within an industry or type of service offering.
I was chosen in the draft by a company that was not my first choice. I interned at CIT in Livingston, Nj (about 20 Miles from NYC). EY was my first choice, but I got picked by CIT first. However, I still had a great internship and ended up getting hired by EY upon graduation anyways, and I have now been here for over 5 years.
Ultimately I decided against doing internal audit or audit of any kind, but I still give great credit to the LSUCIA program for my career today.
