Is there a person you can hire to basically tutor you on P&L’s?

In search of a service that independently reviews P&L reports and can essentially explain them, predict them, and more or less rate your businesses’ health?
I can read a balance sheet well enough but I’m just looking for another unbiased set of eyes…
Does that make sense?

A friend that works in the credit department of a bank is your best bet.

What do you want to know? A p&l isn't too difficult as long as it's all coded correctly, which most small business books have issues.
If the BS is right, the P&L is good so if you have an understanding of the BS and have your recons in order you're off to a good start. If you're looking for an analysis, setting them up with the accounts on the left and the period/month per column is best. Then you can use this data to show trends and make budgets.
There's ratios using the balance sheet that will help show the overall health of the business as a P&L is a point in time snap while the balance sheet is the overall health.
Creditors will want to see a P&L but the BS provides them the info they need.

Is this for your business or are you trying to analyze other businesses?
If it's your business... your CPA should be doing this with you already.
If not your business... there are a number of websites out there that go over how to do this.
It's all about ratio analysis. THat's the best way to do that.
