This sums up the whole thread. I see a car as something that gets me from point A to point B and as long as it does that reliably I'm fine with it. Others see cars as a toy worth spending extra money on to get a certain kind.
Which is why earlier I posted this:

But if that is what is important to you, then I don't consider it dumb. Everyone had different priorities.
This should be the only answer in threads like these.
Which of course some jackass downvoted

Reading comprehension isn't high on my skills list.

I wasn't saying you weren't comprehending, I was agreeing with you.

why would the money board tell him to go for it?
i think in his mind, EpicCajun is trying to justify his own poor financial decisions...
that's the only thing i can think of here
Nice try
I'm just saying that everyone has frivolous things that they spend money on. I'm guessing none of you golf, you all live in bare bones homes, you buy clothes from thrift stores, never go to nice restaurants, and haven't taken vacations?
I initially posted that 24k wasn't the issue, the issue was the fact that it was older and probably going to cost a lot in maintenance.

I think quite a few people agreed with you that the 24k was affordable
They also said that a 5 year old German car is a risky purchase
Not all 24k car buying options are equal

personally I bought a 30k car when making $55k. I had no problem paying the car note. If you want the car and don't have much monthly expenses then go for it.

yea I don't see a problem with it as the cars other people were suggesting were in the same price range. The only caveat is that cars like that aren't cheap to maintain so keep that in mind.

I suggested it but mostly because the gap between luxury car and affordable mid size is getting extremely small. The high expectations of standard tech in a car is to the point that accent pieces are the main upgrades. The drive of a car too isn't significantly different as you are seeing a lot of juice being pumped from stock 4 cylinders and the 6cyl being even better.
In today's world, a stock luxury vehicle isn't so much different from a nice midsize car with a package or two thrown on. Only real difference is the logo
This is so true. There has been a serious convergence of luxury with midgrade of all types. I can get a new Jeep Grand Cherokee with a couple packages or a new C-Class Mercedes for within 5-6 grand of one another.
