I have always just paid and pay to much. I don't want to give anything to them that is not owed. I see quicken and it is billed as a product to pay employees. Does it work for my side of the street?

If you're a 1099, you need to pay taxes on a quarterly basis. I use H&R Block. If you're talking about the taxes you need to file for 2022 by next month, you are screwed.
When you're a 1099, if you underpay taxes during the year by a certain percentage, you'll be penalized, even if you file by April 15th.
