What I do is deposit most of my check and take out what I need that week in cash. When the cash is out you're out and are limited on your spending. I also have a weekly transfer to my savings of $50/wk.

Is mint safe?
Yes. You cannot access any money from the site, you can only view it. If someone were to 'hack' your mint account, the worst that could happen is they could see you keep $3,596 in your Chase checking account, $358 on your AMEX credit card, and you have $14,869 is a Capital One savings account.
Go to the site and watch the videos on its safety. I had the same concerns when I started using it.

I waited until I had seen you guys talking about it for several months before I finally made the plunge.

All these ideas of taking lunch to work, eating out less, writing your expenditures is great stuff.
Personally, every time i get a paycheck i put 10-15% of it in a savings account. That way, i don't have to worry about spending that money. After enough saving, go ahead and put it into a money market account or buy some mutual funds/low risk investments. Once you buy some financial instrument it's a mental block to use this money by selling. But if you absolutely NEED to sell, then you can do so.

Eating at home saves a ton. About $1500 a month for me.

Nope. Wife and I were spending about 70 bucks a day on food. We were eating out at lunch and then dinner would cost 30-50 bucks depending on where you were ordering from. Most places here are in that price range. I started coming home for lunch (work close to home) and we cut out eating out altogether. The savings have been great not to mention the healthier living.

I like it pretty good. I had been tracking things on my own just in an excel spreadsheet and splitting up receipts into separate categories. I guess I could go into MINT and split things up there if I want to keep going that way
I do like having my investments all in one place, and my amex

Eating at home saves me a lot but we don't do it to save money. Wife doesn't like eating out because there are people out there and she's a misanthrope. Plus, I'm a really good cook and enjoy cooking every day.
Only problem is that she can't generate an idea. In a restaurant she has a menu to generate choices. At home I ask "What would you like tomorrow?"
Her: "I dunno, give me 5 choices."
I thus become the waiter who has been asked for a recommendation and I run out of ideas.

We use a product called MiO Liquid. One drop of liquid into a 8 oz glass of water, stir... instant flavored water.
Got some of this after seeing this post. it's pretty cool. I like that I can adjust it too my taste.

Swear off Starbucks. Eat at home. If you have to eat out, order water instead of beer/wine. Cancel your newspaper subscription. Shop for new insurance. Buy generic whenever possible. Route out all those $9/month recurring expenses. Re-iron laundered shirts at least 3 times. Buy used clothes on eBay. Exercise, eat right and stay out of the hospital.
