Got home. Looks like minor damage. Some water damage to a wood floor, fence and some siding damage. is it worth it to file a marginal (relative to the deductible) or just fix it out of pocket?

In Orleans, you'd have to be nuts to file a "marginal" homeowners' claim.

That's what I was thinking, although I think we are doomed to Citizens in perpetuity.

I long for the day I can make an insurance claim.

My shed is gone...it blew away. And my fence is down. Too bad I have an $8000 named storm deductible.

I wish I had never bought my house in Metairie. (had no Katrina damage)

Homeowners Insurance:

First Year - $1200, $500 deduct

Second Year - $2000, $1500 deduct

Third Year - $3000, $8000 deduct

no end in sight.

Yea. I've gone from a $1,000 deductible w/ a $2200 premium in 2005 w/ a private carrier to a $5000 deductible with a $4500 premium w/ Citizens. Was hoping to get back with a private carrier with a lower premium with my renewal this year - pretty sure that is not going to happen now.

Sorry to hear about the shed man, that sucks!

You bought your house after Katrina, right? Then why is your insurance going up and up and up like this...if you have not been making claims and you are with a private carrier this seems odd to me...

I'm still with private carrier, not even Citizens, but might as well be.

2006 and 2007 with AAA
2008 with Republic after AAA refused to renew my wind and hail.

damn man, that sucks.

But yeah, right now the only two plans you can really get around here are ones from Republic or Citizens...and they both SUCK

I haven't even looked at the deductibles on my Republic policy, and frankly I dont want to

Republic deductible is 5% for named storm

here's a question...my shed blew away into my neighbor's yard, and I think it's in his pool. That's not my problem, right? If anything on his property is damaged, he has to make a claim on his insurance, right?

You are correct. His insurance will probably sue your company and they can fight it out. You're OK.

Your neighbor's company will pay for damages at his house. It is very unlikely that you have any liability, so they will not pursue you or your insurance company for reimbursement.

I think one would have to see the pre-Gustav pictures of that shed to see if you were negligent in leaving that p.o.s. laying around in your backyard.
