Vanguard is widely regarded as the gold standard of passive investing because the funds track pretty well with all competitors but have lowest fees.
My first roth ira was a college graduation present from my parents funded with 5k of vnfix ( is that right? The sp500 fund?) from vanguard.

My advice is open vanguard Roth account and use just enough of your savings to go into the minimum required initial investment to get into the vnfinx or whatever they call the vanguard 500 now, and equally split with the vanguard income equity fund, which I cannot find right now.
