I don't think the average company match is near that high
Mine matched 6% for the first two years then went to a Pension plan.

Why not more if you don't have the supplemental plan?

Yeah, I'm not sure why he said "no less, no more"
Put in as much as you're comfortable with. Sure, there are other investment vehicles for you to diversify across, but putting it into a 401k is never a "bad" idea

T is a good value right now. About to get some more in a week or two if the price stays where it is. Also Hormel but that probably isn't exciting enough for most people

Absolutely. Unless a person has other, higher return investments that require funding (such as rental real estate), getting the company match in a 401K, maxing an HSA (if available), maxing an IRA and then dumping the rest into the 401K, will set you free financially... if you start early enough.
For the overwhelming majority of Americans, saving too much (in a 401K or elsewhere) isn't the problem. It's saving too little.

What are y'alls thoughts on the FKINX for a dividend play? I am currently putting half of my savings in there (reinvesting dividends) and the other half in VTSMX.

50% of the portfolio is debt, much of it below investment grade, plus they charge a 4.25 percent load. If you want a pure dividend play look elsewhere.

Thanks, I've been considering just stopping contributions to Franklin, letting the dividends reinvest and marinade for 30 years or so, and putting everything into the VTSMX. And to the OP, every dividend stock I would suggest has been posted, if you are looking for growth id be glad to throw out a few I'm currently in, ISRG has treated me well so far and I see it going up and up.

And turkey, but yes. Also laughing that that got a downvote. Would like to see ADM, JNJ, or HD take a dip. Also looking at Exxon and Microsoft.

6% is the average across the nation.
Here in the South, you'll be lucky to get a 4% match.
Cost of living and such.
